How do you buy games through gog.com? Every time I try to buy games through gog and when I use a standard credit card it never seems to work. I wonder, how do you get to buy games through gog?

What do you mean "it doesn't work"? I've successfully purchased games using PayPal and a debit card, however, I'm not aware of anything that should prevent a credit card.

Did you try to contact GOG's support? I doubt random people on the Internet would be able to better help you with this than literally the people whose job is to solve these kinds of problems.

GoG shows up (correctly) as being based in Poland. Therefore your bank or issuing credit card company assumes it's a fraudulent purchase. You could try calling your CC/bank customer service and see about setting up some sort of pre-authorization...

-OR-

Just buy a disposable, prepaid credit card at any drugstore. Those things are sold everywhere. Try a $20 prepaid and see if that works. If that works then it's clearly the better option as there's minimal hassle.

Have you tried using Paypal? I couldn't be bothered to put in my card details so I just pay by paypal instead.

Actually GOG is Uk registered limited company, its parent company is based in Poland.

Still, when I tried buying something from GoG, that was the reason provided to me by my bank as to why it was automatically denied.

I did a bit of digging and GoG is registered as Cypriot holding company and you say it has a Polish bank account. That is the sort of thing that set off alarms bells about money laundering and fraud.

I can't remember why I stopped just short of completing my PayPal registration. I guess when it comes to PayPal I'm ultra-paranoid, which is weird because I'm otherwise "normal".

Still, I think PayPal is a simple solution for Randoman01 to get some DRM-free games, just as long as he adds money to his account in a judicious fashion on a per-transaction basis. Or he could go my ultra-paranoid route and buy disposable prepaid cards...which sounds crazy in retrospect.

Funnily enough, I recommend PayPal for the ultra-paranoid.

While it may seem weird, I'd much rather PayPal have my card details or bank details (depending on what you want to give them) than provide a card number or some other form of payment to every merchant out there when I make a purchase. At least I cut down on my exposure that way.

Of course, if PayPal gets hacked, then we're really screwed.

Its worth pointing out that Paypal's lawyers take the most conservative view of due diligence. Which means to have a verified business account with paypal that handles large sums daily, you would have to jumped through lots of hoops.
