Prof. Layton Sequels Coming to States

Level 5 has confirmed that the second Professor Layton game is coming to the states - and series creator Akihiro Hino wants all the other games to follow.

At the Game Developers' Conference 2009, Level 5, the developers of the quirky-and-awesome Professor Layton and the Curious Village told MCV UK [http://www.mcvuk.com/news/33718/Professor-Layton-sequel-due-in-next-six-months#after_ad] that the first sequel is currently being localized for release in the West.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village, in case you weren't familiar with the game, was a Nintendo DS puzzle-adventure game - literally. Beyond the general mystery of the titular curious village of St. Mystere, the intrepid Professor and his young sidekick Luke had to solve puzzles to make their way around town, from standard "chicken, dog, and boat" puzzles to sliding blocks (curse you, sliding blocks!) to riddles and the like. It was also really, really, good [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/holidayguide2008/5509-The-Escapist-Holiday-Buyers-Guide-Kid-At-Heart].

The sequel, titled Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, is the second in a trilogy of games - beyond that, though, there will be a second trilogy as well as a movie [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/90001]. Diabolical Box will be released in the West "within six months," but hopefully we'll get the others soon enough as well - Akihiro Hino, the man who created the series (and penned the movie), wants to see all six titles released in the West.

I loved the game, but I'm slightly perplexed that they are already planning 2 trilogies and a movie. This is almost like the announcement of the Gears of War 10 year plan to take over the world.

Easy there buddies, success in the video game market is as fragile as Windows Vista.

One step at a time...

Oh fuck yes! I loved this game and never understood why they didn't bring the others over. The first three games are already out in Japan, and the first game in the second trilogy is on the way, as well as the movie.

What? Damn it's almost like living in the 90s again without the internet...how could they wait so long for them to localize them.
Any idea how good they are?
If they are like the first then I retract my previoous comment.

Haven't played them, but I've heard only good things. And they're very much in the same style as Curious Village.

Amazing that they have already made 3 games in 4-5 years, that's quite impressive.
If they end up being as good as the first, Level 5 will become one of my developers to look out for (you should definetly add them to March Madness along with Media Molecule).

Level 5 are already developers to look out for (look up White Knight Story if you don't believe me) and I love their work.

While I'm still slugging my way through the first one (so hard!) I love every second of it. Adventure Game + Brain Teasers + Miyazaki Esque Animated Scenes = Brilliance.

One of the best games on the DS. Thank god we're finally getting the sequel! Seriously, how long does it take to localize a game?!

I would like to see these games sent over here post haste. First one was great, I love puzzle games.

Also on a side note, I want another Zack and Wiki game, is there talk about another one of those on the way?

Yes this is great but be patient, I can't imagine it will be easy to translate such text heavy games and change the dialoge so it wiould make sense to the weastern world

And I stopped reading after that.

He speaks the truth, this game was masterfully performed and executed, it was really a wonderful game. I enjoyed the game a lot myself (having gotten it for my brother) and ended up beating it.

The bonus items left after you complete the game made it worthwhile.

My only complaint is the music in the main town square. Ack.

Hopefully they print more than 100 copies this time. The original still sells for higher than the retail price on eBay.
Really? Wow. I never knew that. I believe there's still a bunch at the local Target. Hm..
