Really, though - this gives me 1984 flash-backs.
Well, they are all focused on power, all Obama and his Liberal hacks want is for the country to follow them blindly, just read Mark Levins new book, Liberty and Tyranny.
Kind of like Rush Limbaugh and his Conservative hacks want you to follow them blindly? Why can't you people see that all politics are pointless and the real power resides in communities, and with real people, not talking heads and representatives. And no I am not talking about anarchism or communism.
Then why in the world can we do nothing to stop Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi from passing these bills other than shout at their staffers over the phone. They are trying to take all the power away from the people and use it for themselves. And i do NOT follow Rush and The rest of the intelligent news sources because I feel like being myself. I listen to them about once a week so I can see what the lib media isn't telling me about Barack "The messiah" Obama.
Our power isn't to influence the country, or change national policy the power is to shape your own community through a 'communal' cooperation. Small town hall democracy. You can change your own communities to suit your own desires, and if you do something illegal on a national scale, but your community accepts it, then they back you up. It's all about your life on your own scale. Shaping your own life.
Dude, we live in a soft tyranny right now. There were people who felt guilty they had a job for christs sake! I'm mad about how you get punished in theis country because you do well in life, why do you think obama wants to tax the daylights out of people who make money because they worked their buts off to earn what they do. CEO's don't start out that way, especially if they are the ones who start the company. If I go out and start a small buisness and it starts to do well, I will get punished by the capitial gains tax.

Here's the problem: when the internet was first dreamed up by the US Department of Defense, one of the key features that they required was a decentralized network, meaning there is no way to simply "pull the plug" on the internet. In theory, the government could ask all the ISP's nicely to turn off their servers, but this sounds either impossible to carry out, or wildly unconstitutional.
It is wildly unconstitutional, like gun control, federal education spending, most of the government bureaucracies, and other government acts.

Calm down, calm down, not if we get the statists out of government and put in people who actually believe in the constitution in the way the founders wanted us too.

Soft tyranny? Really? Use a little perspective, please. You can say what you want, buy a gun, download porn, read a newspaper, protest the government, have sex with people of your own gender, believe whatever religion you want and you think this is tyranny? By the way, people who are getting "punished" are the ones who have gained the most from the American way of life. And trust me, they'll still have more money than you and I will make in our lives after Uncle Same is finished taking his portion.

What exactly does that have to do with what we are talking about? And so what? My mother has a succesful small business, And she makes enough money to run it and support us. She makes roughly 40k a year. which is an average sum that allows us to live in a nice home with nice things. Most CEOs of large companies make more than a million dollars a year. Often much more than that. Even if you take away half of their yearly salary they are still making 500k a year, far more than my family, and I can gurantee that none of them has to work as hard as my mother, who went to college for ten years to become a veterinarian, which amounts to a an internal medical doctor for three species, a dentist for three, a chiropractor for three, and a surgeon for two. Not just one species or specialty like a human doctor. The whole thing with these CEOs is they want you to think it is an injustice. It is in fact not an injustice, it is just barely a little unfair. And what you fail to see, is even after all this 'injustice' these policies can be changed in the future, we live in a democracy, if you think Obama is some 'dictator' trying to exert total control over the US, you are fooling yourself. Even if he does 'take over' we can rise up and remove him. You can't tell me Americans aren't up for a good ol' fashion revolution. If by the end of his first term he has actually completely screwed us, not just allegedly, then we will vote in someone new. And if he gets re-elected, and still 'actually' screws us, we can Still elect someone new to fix it.

Ok, you people need to calm down. This is what happens when you don't read through articles yourselvesa and don't fact-check. The Cybersecurity Adviser position, not the president himself, would have the power only to disconnect Federal Infrastructure Networks, if he felt the threat was imminent I.E. any government department, which processes the data of every citizen in the united states, could be disconnected if a vulnerability ws found that put said data at risk, or if the network controlled something which could be damageed by a cyber attack. That is all this bill does in the way of "shutting down the internet". Also, learn your own governmental system, for god's sake. The President does not propose bills, It hasn't even passed by congress yet, and you are all here accusing Obama of trying to stifle your freedoms.

@ssgt splatter: 1984 is a distopian book written by George Orwell which featured a soviet style government with total control of their people, right down to constant monitoring and "though-crimes"

Edit: Sorry for the rant, but it irks me when people begin trumping up rumors and panicking because they lack the common sense to go look for themselves.
Just thought this should be brought up again, since everyone seems to be ignoring it and jumping into 1984 mode.
Eventually, someone else, anyone will actually read this. I have to believe that.

This won't work. The internet is a worldwide thing, and the united states is hardly the world. I doubt obama would even authorize this anyway. If anyone wants this power, it would be the FCC, since they are constantly trying to limit expression over public channels of interaction anyway. The world wide web isn't even a threat to the government because the more secretive government stuff is likely on a wholly separate network, one that is disconnected from the web at large.

And to opscomm, the problem with a truly free market is that with use comes abuse. We were getting shafted in the early days by trusts and the irregular nature of the stock market. It was black friday, the big crash in 1929, that caused the great depression in the first place. What Roosevelt did with the big deal wasn't an intended step towards socialism, it was a list of safeguards intended to keep the entire country from losing out permanently. As for george w. bush's deficit being blamed on the actions of bill clinton, you're wrong again: during clintons administration we had the largest financial surplus in american history, but when W started the war on terror and started sending troops and arms en masse into afghanistan and eventually iraq he ran us into a multi-trillion dollar debt. I don't care for socialism either, but the fact of the matter is that parts of it simply work.

Europe is aligned on the US.
Also, check the bill, Section 21-1-A.
If you plan to move, you'll have to be more imaginative, I'm afraid. ;)

*insert music* So you say you want a revolution...we'll you know...we all want to change the world.
Yep...Barrack Hussein Obama has promised change. Too bad no American will want the change into a socialist society after this change happens.
If you voted for Mr. Hussein, please stand from your chair, feet together...now bend your one kneed quickly in the motion to kick yourself in the arse. Please be seated...because its all you can do now till November 2011.
May God help us.

Rockerfeller and Snowe. Both Republicans. Hmm.... I'd say they're a little late. The Republican regime is gone now. (good.)

I was pretty lenient on the new administration, and a new Congress, but this...

Fuck it, I'm buying a gun and getting every last bullet I can into my basement, after which I will surround myself with steel-reinforced concrete and ventilation systems extending miles.

We all understand how laws pass in America.
It gets into congress, whom are afraid of the internet and video games, and if we're lucky, it won't pass. But if the past 2 decades are any indication of what politicians think about anything that isn't apple pie, you can bet they'll be trying to pass it.
Now, kindly piss off, you haven't been here very long, so you don't know very many people. But do not pass sweeping judgments on people you don't know.
I'm not passing sweeping judgments on people I don't know. I'm passing judgment on people I've seen in this thread going "OMG the US government wants to shut down the internet, those retards), "I knew Obama was a communist who wants to control what you think," and the like. I'm sure they're all wonderful yet unbelievably paranoid people; I just wish they'd save the paranoia for something worth it.

well, here you are acting like a total dick whos got his head so far up his own ass a man with an 80 inch penis couldnt get it in your mouth.

and let me geuss your one of those liberals who voted for obama, and thinks that theres absolutley nothing wrong, with spending 7 trillion dollars and taxing the fuck out of the people while they just "hope" to pay it off?
