shooting them with tear gas and rubber bullets.
Pretty wild that we've decided that using tear gas on enemy soldiers is 100% illegal but using it on our own citizens is entirely kosher, because the Chemical Weapons Convention explicitly carved out an exception.

Wars turn the wheels and deserve honor, protests stop the wheels and deserve contempt.

After having seen the video and heard he was suspected of trying to pay with a false bill I can totally understand the anger. But I do not believe this justifies violent protests and vandalism. The police officers involved have been fired (and quite quickly at that) so that's already something.

Have they been charged with involuntary manslaughter? (or something alike)

They'd ban it pretty swiftly if civilians were allowed to use it back on the police. After all, the real objection to these sorts of things is that other people might use it against you.

I cannot find the youtube video posted by The Amazing Lucas. It was the longest post of this incident and it makes the cops involved look like 1st degree murderers. I'm wondering if there was a connection between them and the victim? Was this a hit/execution? Crazy it has been taken down: this was not violence porn but an important piece of reporting and commentary. It included an off camera voice claiming to be a fire rescue person pleading that the victim now appeared unresponsive. And still they killed him.

This reminds me of the Ferguson story where people are destroying their communities for no reason. It's not like the leaders of the police union live there. Some random dude will just not have a car or a shop any more right as we're nearing a depression. Not very smart.

Just because the guy was killed in a senseless way that doesn't give you the right to also act senseless. In fact, someone protesting that act should be the last person to promote senselessness.

Whenever there's a GTA6 I can see them implementing this mechanic.

Come on, he was murdered with impunity. What's this 'killed in a senseless way' nonsense?

What do you think would happen to those people if they did go and protest in the police chief's neighborhood?

You do know that the current demonstrations in Minneapolis took place literally at the precinct local to the incident, right? Like, what are you even suggesting here?

They'd be heard more for sure for one. As long as they actually only protested and didn't also vandalize stuff, of course. If they did both then they'd prolly be met with a ton more violence.

And I'm not sure what your semantic issue here is but I saw no sense in just kneeing the guy in the neck after he passed out which is prolly what ended up killing him so that's completely senseless to me. As in, doesn't make sense, I don't comprehend why one would do it.

Are you explaining it by these people just thinking "we're gonna kill this dude now, lets go on keep killing him"? Cause that makes even less sense lol.

Yes so like I said, the community being damaged is the one being opressed when you vandalize stuff at the protest. That's my actual point. If you're gonna protest at that same precinct it doesn't make sense to cause damages cause you're hurting the same community that was just hurt by this incident.

Do you know what a 'squad car' is?

Eh i'd argue, since someone died, and you can't unfuck that, some forms of violence are atleast understandable.

Like vandalizing police property - who are the cause of the whole ferment.

Actually no but I assumed it is some type of police vehicle that is purchased (and will be repaired/replaced) with the taxes that the community pays that could have gone to other things. Also, was the damage limited solely to that car? Where did the chicken they threw at it come from? Did someone just bring it with them? Wasn't it also stolen from some chicken-selling-place?

I find it heartwarming that there are people who are more concerned about a trashed police car (and frozen chicken apparently) than the fact that a man died from asphyxiation at the hands of state violence. You know, a death is never going to be undone, there's no guarantee this kind of injustice won't continue, and that the cops will only get fired instead of being sentenced for murder, but the costs of the car are the real clincher.

This wasn’t random, protesters sieged a police station, destroying police barricades and trying to break in while forming their own battle lines. A handful broke into a liquor store across the street, and there was a lot of fighting in the Target parking lot where people were gathering, also across the street. Given that most of the “random violence and destruction” is localized to places where protesters are trying to demonstrate opposing the police or directly fight them as the case may be, seems more likely a handful of opportunists wanted to make a quick buck while the police were busy with a literal siege.

I'm pretty sure the one who was actually on the guy will be charged. I dunno if he's gonna be convicted cause he's a cop but I guess that's not for me to decide.

Yeah so that's my point. We're nearing a depression and now the liquor store owner is gonna have to somehow come up with the money or get his insurance to cover his damages when he is part of the community that is being harmed by the police here.

It doesn't help the cause.

So like a dozen dudes steal from an insured business and the whole protest is bust? Let those without sin hold the first riot? Seems foolish to me.

No more like "never riot, it's always counter-productive".

The fact that you use words like riot and protest interchangeably here is kind of the issue I'm pointing out. They are NOT the same thing.

True, riots accomplish meaningful change sometimes.

Yeah, what about the starving children in Africa? Why are we concerned with this one act of state violence when there are bigger problems in the world!?

Let those without sin...
Fun fact, that verse was likely a forgery since it's only found in the later copies of that manuscript and not any of the earlier ones.
