So, when I first heard about how the main antagonist of Prototype 2 would be the protagonist of Prototype 1, my first thought was "Fuck shit, there goes my career as a video game designer with original concepts." Because you see, I'd been thinking about a two-game series where the second game's antagonist is blah blah blah for ages, and now somebody had read my mind and stolen my idea.

However, it seems that my ability to be creative is still slightly intact because Prototype 2 took a good idea and completely fucked it up. The problem was that they didn't make Alex the bad guy in part 2 because it seemed like the natural direction for his character, or that it made sense in the context of his character. They pulled it out of their asses because they thought it would be cool, and thought that that alone would classify their story as "Good" without them having to actually put any effort into all those unnecessary things like relatable characters and well-written dialogue. Basically they added that twist in without a whole lot of consideration of whether or not it actually made sense, whereas my idea was to actually make the entire story arc based around it.

Basically, it would be a sci-fi type game similar to Mass Effect, only the gameplay would have less cover-based shooting and more jetpacks. The basic storyline is that a certain part of the world, or perhaps the entire world for more dramatic effect, is under the rule of a questionable ruler - Not necessarily evil, simply questionable. But there are a group of people who disagree with many of his policies, and they wish to assassinate him. In fact, when you start the game you are one of those people and have already nearly worked your way up to the point where you're this man's right hand man, and already have plans to betray and kill him. Throughout the storyline there would be a gradual curve in your main character's desires - At first he would want to kill this ruler not for personal gain, but because he genuinely believes the world would be better with somebody else ruling. But as the storyline moves on he would gradually be consumed by lust for the power of the man's position, and in the end when he assassinates the ruler and takes his place he has now become completely engrossed in power that he would completely forget his original plans and go on to become the evil dictator that the previous ruler never was.

The second game would follow a new protagonist, and while in the first game you played as someone who was a very high-ranking officer from the very beginning, in this one you'd play as a commoner who's suffered directly at the hands of the dictator's selfish policies. And just to further differentiate itself from the first game even further this game's protagonist would have the exact opposite character arc - He'd start off as a cynical loner in the wake of all the misfortune he's faced at the hands of this leadership, after saving the lives of a couple of rebels they take him in and teach him to care for his fellow man, to the point where he eventually leads them to victory.

So, what do you think? Is this a good idea? Did I just waste my time telling you this? Did I come off as a pretentious ****?
