PS1 Games not recognizing memory cards on PS2

So the other day I picked up the Final Fantasy Anthology (FFV and FFVI) plugged in my old PS2 and fired it up. The Credits came on and the main menu worked just fine for both games, but when I select a new game for either game it tells me there's no memory card in either slot. I've got two functioning memory cards with plenty of space (over 1,000 KB) and the system recognizes them outside of the games. I've got a functioning PS1 but I've managed to loose all the memory cards for it, is there just no way around needing a PS1 memory card even if I play on a PS2? Both of the Playstations are the 'slim' versions if that matters. Thanks in advance.

Apparently you need a PS1 memory card to save PS1 games even on a PS2. Also Final Fantasy Anthology is known to have some compatibility issues when playing with a PS2 (though perhaps not all region versions) so you may run into other issues. Your pretty much limited to tracking down an old memory card and hoping for the best or playing via an emulator (unless you maybe have a PS3 then there's that).

Pretty much need a PS1 memory card to save PS1 games on the PS2. That's about it. Sorry :/
Unless a hacked ps2 might be able to do something about it. Don't know though.

Balls. Okay thanks. My PS1 still works too (I actually couldn't find the TV plugins for it or the power cord but at least for the slims the PS2 ones both work), I just need to get a memory card for it. Gamerz in Austin where I bought the games from should have one, hope it isn't too expensive.
