I see people complaining frequently about hitting the word cap and needing to break up their post, and this is simply not true. The character cap on the forums is 50 000, that's close to 10 000 words. Now I understand some of us are pretty wordy, but generally not that wordy. Also, if you hit the character cap you will get an actual error message telling you so:

But today I'm going to teach you how to deal with the other error you keep getting. You know the one. Completely nondescript and uninformative:

The first thing to do is copy your post into something like notepad, just to avoid losing it. Then, delete your post. Now you need to toggle BBC code by clicking the little gear on the right of the post bar:

If you don't delete it first, you'll get an error when trying to toggle BBC code. Now you can copy your post back onto the Escapist and hit post and it will post without giving an error. This is likely going to break any images and formatting that you had in your post, but it is better to edit those back in later. Once your message has been posted you can click 'edit' and now it is safe to toggle BBC code back off and add your images or other formatting. If you run into an error again, just make your changes one at a time until you figure out what's causing it.
Edit: I believe this issue has finally been solved by the admin, so this workaround is probably irrelevant now.
