PSP: Australian For Beer

I'm not sure how the convergence works, but I do know that this Stella Artois [http://www.stella-artois.com/]-branded PSP is just about the coolest thing I've seen all day.

Australian brewer Lowe and Rivet [http://www.fosters.com.au/] were asked to devise a sales presenter, and somehow came up with the idea to produce 50 customized PSPs instead.

The PSP systems were rebranded with the Stella Artois logo on the back, and feature a pre-installed Stella XMB theme as well. To tie up the package, the systems come in a hand-stitched black velvet drawstring bag emblazoned with the Stella Artois logo, a high-class touch for a unique and seriously sexy handheld console.

How this is going to sell more beer is anyone's guess, although the Lowe and Rivet website says, "Because PSPs are wi-fi capable, Foster's can now load up new material quicker than new pages can be printed for a loose-leaf folder." No doubt that's close enough to good enough for videogame fans on the Foster's marketing team.

Unfortunately for videogame fans who don't happen to be on the Foster's marketing team, this little gem was designed exclusively for the company, and won't be available commercially. The truly determined may want to keep an eye on eBay, where at least a few of these things will likely find their way, or perhaps try their luck with an online petition [http://www.petitiononline.com/] demanding a widespread release of the suds-themed handheld. Or you could just do what I do: Nip out, pick up a case of the Wifebeater and forget about the whole thing.

The funny thing is that in Australia VB is considered the wifebeater. A while ago when I spent a year in the UK I realised that Stella was the wifebeater over there. In Australia Stella is a more pricey beer, though the imported bottles taste miles better then the stuff brewed on license here.

Now if only they'd bring out a themed DS...

I don't mind Stella, but to be honest I've never been a huge fan of Belgian beer. Which may seem kind of odd, given the whole Belgian "beer culture" thing, but I'm far more fond of a good stout or porter, and generally speaking prefer ales to lagers. But a good beer is a good beer, and in Canada at least, you can do far worse than Stella.

On a side note, what do you think of Moose Head? I had a mate up in Canada for a Wedding who swears by it. Though to be honest, he was probably wasted at the time of drinking it... Honestly... Aussie Irish Girl; Marrying a Canadian Irish man, with relatives from the homeland itself present to witness (read: get drunk)

He was still fucked up when he got home. Jetlag aside, he drank enough to be declared legally dead.

Moosehead's not bad, although it's far from my favourite. But compared to most other mainstream domestic beers, it's fantastic. It's a lot like Stella that way, not necessarily great on its own merits, but compared to a lot of the other swill that's floating around out there, it's pretty damn good. If you ever get to Canada yourself, may I recommend St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout by McAuslan if you like thick, dark beers, or Mill St. Tankhouse Ale for something a bit more conventional but still absolutely out of this world. It's kind of silly in some ways to recommend regional microbrews to people in different countries, but the sad truth appears to be that it's the only way to find beer that's really a cut above the mainstream crapola that becomes successful due primarily to the scale of its distribution network.

One of my uncles runs a bottle shop that specialises in imported beer, oddly enough, I got my first taste of proper Belgium wife beaters from him...

Its pretty bloody dear for the most though, I can?t remember the prices, but I do remember being shocked in a drunken haze one Christmas? I'll ask him to pick up a few cases for the next family gathering.

Anyways, I don't see the point of this. If they aren't mass-releasing the special addition ones, then what do they hope to market with?
