Seems retailers are boycotting the Psp Go. Why? Well it could have to do with the fact that it has no UMD drive. Everything is downloaded from sony, games and everything else. So that means no games for retailers to sell.

It's the whole Direct2Drive argument all over again. skipping over the middle man.

Of course, a retailer wants to stay in business. They get a lot of sales from games.

So what do you think?

I don't know why Sony thought this wouldn't happen. Anyone who is suprised that retailers wouldn'd stock something that would be harmful to their business is a moron.

Hrm. Well, of course the retailers would want to stay in business, but if the Go is aimed at phasing out the previous version of the PSP, they won't be making UMDs for the retailers to sell forever anyway. It's not as though the PSP is the only gaming platform out there.

So I suppose it's understandable that retail stores would flip out about it a bit. But hey, someone's going to sell them.

I think what we're forgetting here is that we're talking about the PSP, possibly the lowest-selling current-market platform of the decade. The fact that retailers are getting their asses chapped over it seems like making a mountain out of a molehill. I know if my store stopped selling PSP games, the sales drop would be negligible, if at all.

Don't care really, I don't play them. I can understand game shops not being happy, their business suffers because they make their money primarily off games. But it was said before, there are other consoles to make money off.

I watched a tech-demo a few weeks back, all I saw was a downgraded psp! The whole concept of taking the UMD drive out is so forward its backward! I understand why the retailers intend to boycott it. Without a physical product there is no reason for gaming outlets and without that the whole system of the shop clerk, customer becomes redundant. "There taking our JOBS!" southpark hillbilly construction worker.

I don't think 55 million sales worldwide is something retailers forget about. That's more sales than the Super Nintendo.

Also lowest selling of the decade? Do you know what the N-Gage is? And yes, it is still supported. They still make games for it.

I can't imagine them really supporting a console that once they've sold it and the customer has left their store they won't feel an inclination to go back and buy games there, as it is impossible with the pspgo. So they might as well buy up the cheaper psp's and sell those as they are more likely to sell in my opinion, due to the cheaper price and umd capabilities. And the store can try and sell some games at the same time.
