My main beef with the new series is Mika's character and personaliy, because as of right now, she only feels like a trope. She's basically past Ginoza with past Akane's experience...So it feels really redundant seeing the same type of character at the start of the new series.

Heck, how is it that Mika who already worked as an inspector for at least 1 Year with Akane still treat Enforcers like shit and the Sibyl system like God. Did they simply ignore each other and never discuss any case?


Everything else was Great.

the writers introduce new conflicts in this new medicine that's able to fool Sibyl and a person at the very end of the episode who appears to be an antagonist.

Conjecture, The medicine here states that it's able to keep your PP Low, not make you undetectable. The Big Bad at the end was totally undetectable As the Enforcer who tries pointing his Dominator at him shows nothing and the thing keeps locking on to his Inspector. Hence why Her Dominator instantly went into Lethal Eliminator Mode rather than the regulated Non-Lethal Paralyzer.

Also, right now I personally feel that the Medicine is just a Red Herring.

I think the medicine is to completetly subdue emotion Equilibrium style, but it's still the first episode so we should wait a bit more for characterization, not expect it to do anything on th first episode.

Edit: what's the deal with "impactful compared to the previous season's premiere"? Did they actually watch it? It's pretty much the same, a long action scene with minimum time for characters, there's not a lot of different except the viewer already knowing about the setting.

The very first episode of Psycho-Pass introduced us to a lot of things. We saw how the police respond to threats in that they follow what Sibyl tells them via the Dominator. We saw a heavily urbanized city with some pitfalls as things fall through the cracks of the "all-knowing, all-perfect" Sibyl System. And then we saw Akane come in as an outsider and actively challenge things. Akane walking through an unsafe area, learning about the role of enforcers, and then ultimately shooting Kougami because she believed the woman was not going to hurt anyone despite Sibyl declaring her worthy of an execution -- that episode was incredibly tense.

Naturally, this premiere is doing some different things as it's an extension of an existing series rather than something completely new, but it lacked the punch of the first premiere. We don't see a whole lot happen other than Akane reaffirming that she is for the individuals in society rather than society as Sibyl imagines it.

That isn't necessarily bad, but the tension was absent from most of this episode. And I imagine that tension will build in coming episodes both inside and outside of the Public Safety Bureau. Akane will also likely face personal struggles.

Since Season One was written by Gen Urobuchi, I tried to scale back my hopes for a season written by someone else... fortunately it's Tow Ubukata, and I did like Le Chevalier D'Eon. And, well, things look to be reasonably interesting so far.

Honestly, People should really stop "idolizing" Urobuchi, it's now a legit buzzword.

I thought it was a solid first episode for a new season. We lost a lot of great characters in season 1. Kogami/Akane/Makishima were the main pillars of the series now that we only have Akane I'm interested to see who steps up to counterbalence Akane.
