PT Inspired Allison Road Finds Publisher, Cancels Kickstarter

Developer signs on with UK publisher Team 17.

Lilith Ltd. has canceled their Kickstarter for Allison Road, announcing that they will instead develop the game in partnership with Team 17.

In an update to the campaign announcing its cancellation, the developer noted that they still intend to involve the community of fans who pledged support on Kickstarter, though further details were not provided.

Allison Road is a first-person horror game which drew considerable attention in June when it appeared on Steam Greenlight, becoming approved for the service within 48 hours. It is considered by many to be a spiritual successor to P.T., the first-person teaser of a since canceled Silent Hill installment, which drew controversy when it was unceremoniously removed from PlayStation Network this past May.

The Kickstarter campaign for Allison Road, which started on September 21 and ran until its cancellation yesterday, had £145,959 in pledges toward its £250,000 goal with just over a week remaining.

Team 17, best known for the Worms franchise, has been developing their indie games label for the last few years, publishing The Escapists, LA Cops, and others. The studio will also publish the forthcoming spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, Yooka-Laylee.

Well Team 17 specializes in off-brand Alien knockoff games and those Worm games.
So...Maybe?
Knockoff Silent Hill + Worms...it HAS potential

I tend to find these games extremely boring, but I'll look into this one once it gets closer to completion.

As an long-time fan, I feel kinda snubbed they didn't mention Alien Breed.

That said, probably not as snubbed as I felt when they did nothing but Worms titles for over ten years...

I played the new Alien Breed games to completion and while they didn't have that same 'feel' as the originals, they were pretty good in their own right.

Gotta be honest, I'm a little frightened.

If there was anything the last few years have taught us, it's that developers = bad when it comes to gaming. These guys aren't EA, they aren't Ubisoft... but how many meetings are there going to be to mess with Allison Road creators to make it more of a mess and less of their vision?

Respectfully, I don't see mention of Kojima or Del Toro in the original campaign, so... What they're doing might be great, it might be an example of style over substance, it might be garbage, or it might be one more promise that turns out to be vaporware, but anything that claims it's a "spiritual successor to PT" has to be taken as little more than targeted advertising.

I...What? Game developers are the ones who make the games. The article even call the Alison Road guys, developers. You are thinking of publishers. Team 17 is an independent studio who will be PARTNERING with the Allison Road devs to develop the game. This usually indicates that they will share responsibility to produce the game and share profits from the game, but the Allison Road devs have more control over the game in this agreement.

Well considering that Team 17 is publishing I really don't think that'll be much of a problem. Plus Team 17 isn't all that bad, I know a guy who used to work for them and keeps in contact with their team that says they were always pretty chill in comparison to other developers/publishers he's worked with.

While I'm really happy for the devs that they got themselves a publisher, I just don't know if this game can fill the void that Silent Hills left. Because from what I understand, this isn't a game inspired by Silent Hills, this is inspired by P.T.

P.T. was great, I loved P.T., but it gameplay wise it was very different from a Silent Hill game.

The screenshots are so dark I can't tell what they're supposed to show, which is a red flag for underwhelming indie horror game. Fingers crossed!

I'm hoping that there will a bunch of PT inspired games who rake in money and make Konami executives cry themselves to sleep with regret. FucKonami!
