I have been looking around at some new EA games being released, and in my opinion the quality of them has increased. For example, Skate, Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, etc. They are actually making some original games instead of yearly updates of the same old sport games.
What are your thoughts?

P.S. I have searched for this and couldn't find it.

I think this sums it up pretty well.

I don't get why people think M.I. is good, sure it is good for EA but for the rest of the industry it would be shameful.

Well, they make plenty of decent games, but they tend to muck up their newly gained kudos.
Still, they are higher on the scale than Activision in my opinion.

I actually loved Battlefield: Bad Company. It had great fun online multiplayer, and it kept me off CoD4 for a couple of months.. Although I think it's more DICEs effort than EA

EDIT: Oh1.. And no way can I not hate EA when they make games like this: http://www.hasbro.com/littlestpetshop/da_DK/

Puke anyone?

I Liked Army Of Two.

Just putting it out there...

But seriously, EA should stick to sports. They make maybe 2 decent games a year, and the rest are just bargain binners.

Alot of what EA are credited for they were not actually involved in any way except publishing them.

Unfortunatly that doesnt stop them forcing developers to release shitloads of expansions.

Heartily seconded. I wish more games bothered to coordinate co-op experiences. Also, blinging your guns out is awesome.

Weirdly, EA has been knocking em down on all fronts this year. Tiger Woods '09 is fantastic as well. I hope the long tail treats em alright, because I'm going to be digging through their 2008 catalog for a long time.

That alone was enough to make me hate EA forever. After that however, I acquired enough money to buy C&C3. I still am unable of deciding in what way those people should die...

Okay, that wasn't completely honest. There were some good parts in C&C3, it's just that most of it was crap.

EA have definately improved from what they used to be. Though they do still churn out plenty of awful games.
But at least the streams of bad games are broken up with gems like mirrors edge and Hellgate.

Never really hated EA. I think companies like Activision deserves more hate because they puts down promising games like brutal legend and wont let other companies take them under their wing insetead. Only two things I dont like EA for are the DRM thing, but other companies have that in their games too, and that they often release stupid DLC for their games that you have to pay for.

But I still like many of the games they have made themselves, like the SSX series, some NFS games, Dead Space, some james bond games (everything or nothing and nightfire were great games), and the sims 2. And with games like mirrors edge (which I really liked), they show that they are willing to take chances. Another thing is that they release movie licenced games that are better your average movielicenced game. They are also the best at finding licensed soundtrack for their games.

Another thing you guys must understand is that its not always EAs fault that some legendary developers they've bought that used to make epic games, starts spitting out something mediocre or bad.

Nah, the used to absorb companies like Bullfrog and all the great smaller companies of the day. Never really improved their quality so much as dragged down the smaller companies.

But honestly, Mirrors Edge could have been better and bigger - ok, EA did a good job by there own standards, but games that could and should have been revolutionary never reached their target. Spore, for example.

Basically, EA are getting better, but they have screwed up so badly in the past, so badly messed with everyone, and so bloody-minded about forcing DRM onto everything that they are unlikely to regain a popular supporting before they crash and burn.

I think my friend had the best comment about EA games. While at Hofstra my friend and I were waking around there gaming room and we just happened to pass a guy playing Mirror's Edge. He seemed annoyed and turned to us and asked "Hey do you know where to go? I have been siting here since 5 o'clock and I still don't know where to go." My friend looks at me with a smirk on his face and replied "Welcome to an EA game."

I dunno, I think part of the reason I liked the whole blinging thing was that I'd been overdosing on hyper serious shooters for a while. It can easily tip too much in either way, but after saving the world for the umpteenth time I was looking for some gags.

I loved Battlefield: Bad Company for the same reason, just offering a game that lightened up a bit while still delivering a solid experience. Seriously, this game is hilarious:

EA does two things right:

1. New franchises.

2. Making money off of old franchises.

When EA is part of publishing a new franchise, they do fairly good. Look at any major EA publishing that doesn't have a number at the end of the title.

Now look at games like C&C3. What a terrible game.

Yes, EA's business strategy seems to be "Buy up the good companies, get a game or two out of them, then kill them in their sleep"

I second that. Although Dead space was them, Mirror's Edge wasn't.

Mirror's Edge was created by DICE, which was bought by EA. Although Dead Space was theirs.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I think acquiring talent is a bad thing (look at Valve), and I do think it was a good move from EA... But as of now I still have fresh memories of their DRM fiasco, along with the fact that they keep pumping out the same fucking games every bloody year, generally also pressuring their bought companies to do the same (case and point: CoD: WoW)...

I do share a glimpse of hope thought, that EA learned something from their mistakes.
