Hey guys. Do any of you have/had hall monitors in your high/middle school? Growing up, hall monitors only seemed to exist on TV.

Never at any of my schools, unless you count police officers on my college campus and such, I guess that would qualify as like a super awesome hall monitor with a gun.

High/middle school? No. Elementary school? Yes, and they were power hungry little jerks who did everything they could to get other kids in trouble. When I was in the fourth grade, a uniform system was put in by the all knowing school board. You can guess how much glee the hall monitors took in turning the other students in for minor infractions like having an untucked shirt, or not wearing a belt. I even missed the bus once because of those little brats and that uniform policy.

[sub]I can't believe I actually remember all of this. My memory must be better than I thought.[/sub]

I think they're myths, or a super minority, like the two beds for married couples on the old school TV.

The only time I've even SEEN a 'hall monitor' was at a private school.

I've graduated from both and never seen a single hall monitor.

I heard rumors about my high school having one back in the 70's, but I also heard there was a paper airplane mishap that caused major damage to the school, so I'm guessing they didn't look further into it much.

I was one, or at least the British equivalent to one.

Though I was basically the anti-stereotype for a hall monitor, only time I ever did shit was when people were getting the ever loving crap beaten out of them, otherwise I never enforced a damn thing.

I actually, y'know, helped people, instead of acting out that image of the power hungry little douche fuck that screws everyone for even slightly breaking any rule at all.

Pfft. Only in elementary school.

Crappily called the Care Corps. Then later changed to the Care Corp after some jokes about dead bodies.

Never had "hall monitors" per se, but have had homeroom leaders and the like.

Never had hall monitors in any of my schools. The closet thing I've seen to a hall monitor in real life is at an elementary school close to where I went to high school where some fifth graders would be randomly picked to make sure that when someone was walking down the hall they weren't walking too fast. Eventually the faculty at the school realized how big of a waste of time this was and more or less just said "fuck it."

Nope, not at any of my schools or any in my city. We just have teachers that walk around the halls on occasion.
We probably don't have them now days because nobody trusts students our age anymore, and theres no need for them.

I was going to say that no I never had one, but then it dawned on me that we did in fact have them in our equivelent of Junior High... We got cool clipboards and would write down the names of kids doing bad things :p Mainly to keep the 1st and second year students on school premises, as they were n allowed to leave.

No, why the heck would someone get to skip class to stand around in the hall telling people what to do? Sounds like the dream of every slacker... yet TV always shows the smart kids doing it.
In high school we had some old military guy that had retired, and was hired by my school to patrol the halls and send kids back to class. Does that count?

I have never seen a Hall Monitor outside of bad sitcoms in my life. There were a couple quasi-retired priests at my high school (it was a Jesuit place) that basically served as disciplinarians and enforcers, but no student hall monitors.
