They are getting worse, but gradually. We still see the occasional shining example of what a game should be, but majority of the time, lately at least, we see the same stale plots and same mechanics without any real innovation.

Replay value?
None. So much is pumped into graphics of Solid Snakes ingrown hairs, and mindless Online killing of other players I don't want to replay any game I have anymore.

It may make the corps happy thinking I will just up and buy a new one... not so much.

Red Dead was enjoyable enough to replay...everything else? I don't even want to play for the trophies. Most games are a disappointment... I'm getting to a point where all FPS seems to blur now... few gimmicks here and there...sports games have the same rubber band AI they always had. RPG's and just hold your hand stories... eh... but I'm picky.

It seems to be the case these days that games are leaning heavily on multiplayer components in order to justify their existence beyond their relatively short and linear story arcs...

Better.

As game consoles become more powerful, they allow developers to do more of the things that they wanted when they originally make a plan. Not that it makes a game great, but graphics have been improved, allowing developers to make more immersive environments. Console controllers have improved dramatically, better allowing players to control a games characters.

From pong to Today... I'd say that there is an upward trend.
If you ant to talk about minor fluctuations in recent history... I don't know and don't care. I'm interested in longer term trends since game development times is years and thus we need to consider years worth of time to get an idea of what kind of ideas where going on when and not look at what ideas just happened to be there at the time.

Better. Look at Pokemon as examples; the newer ones are better than the old.

Same with Diablo 2 to Diablo, Left4Dead2 to Left4Dead, and, according to some people, Twilight Princess to OoT(I'm a little on the fence on that one myself).

The same. There are still a few epic titles we recall from 20 years ago, and there are few good titles coming out right now. The people saying that games are getting worse are forgetting the landslide of crap that has become forgotten and glossed over. There was a point, just after the NES came out, where home gaming was almost a dead industry due to every game being a low quality arcade port or wannabe.

They're half and half. There are terrible games and there are great games. Games as a whole aren't all getting better or worse, so I'm saying the same.

They were getting better up until really recently, but I think we're going to see a decline for a bit until they get better again (when they do they'll be even better then how they were a few months ago).

"Better" and "Worse" are arbitrary terms. Some people will find a game completely amazing while another group of people will find it to be utter crap. It all depends on the size of the groups.

To me all the score going up means that publishers are bribing more reviewers.

My personal opinion is that age should be included in this vote. I would be more curious to see where the age groups skew the vote, also note by age I mean their gaming age. I've been gaming for 20 years, meaning my sampling of games is far more dynamic than those that have recently taken to an Xbox or Playstation. Does it make my opinion anymore valid or insightful? No, especially not alone. I would like to see how my opinion differs or aligns with other people that have my sort of gaming history.

Games are definaitly getting better if you ask me. With games like Assassin's Creed 2, Portal, Red Dead Redemption and Batman:Arkham Asylum out there games have no where to go but up.
