There was a time in my adolescence where I was completely addicted to arcade shooters. I think before the year 2000 I had beaten every single one on the market.

I miss hanging out in the local arcades, but they've all shut down for the most part.

I played the original TMNT daily during my lunch break in grade school. I don't know where I even got the money to afford it.

Stuffed somewhere on my hard drive is a half-finished text file of a post I was going to write here on the Escapist, detailing my years growing up as an arcade rat, from Pac-Man and Centipede to Virtua Cop and Mortal Kombat to House of the Dead 4 and Tekken 5. I have been epically ninja'ed!

But anyway. As said above, I practically grew up in arcades, and I am sad to see their decline. Even at the age of 34 I still have the urge to plunk some tokens into a machine, pick up a heavy plastic replica gun, and blast things. Going guns-akimbo on House of the Dead 4 is a serious blast. And has anyone had the chance to play these [http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/machines/shooting_games/Gun_Blade_NY_(DX)_744.html] games [http://www.coinopexpress.com/products/machines/shooting_games/LA_Machine_Guns_(DX)_727.html]? Mounted machineguns + rocket-launcher-toting androids = SO MUCH FUN.

There was an arcade in our mall a few years ago. I went in once or twice, but this was before I was really into the gamer culture. Of course, as luck would have it they shut it down several years ago. It's been turned into a tanning salon.

I haven't spent too much time in arcades. Something I'd like to remedy to be quite honest. The only problem is the fact that there are only 2 arcades in my country.

Granted, one of those two is in my city, but the most recent game they have over there is Tekken 4. The last time I went I spent most of my time with the pinball machines and a few rounds of every single House of the Dead machine they had. If they'd update the games a bit, or at least stop removing the machines I actually enjoy I'd go more often.

I would like to take this time to complain about the fact they removed Super Monkey Ball within a month. That was one of the best games they had over there.

Time crisis, for both 3 and 4 friends and I hit the arcade pretty much as soon as they were released. Oh and dance mat games are rather fun, even though I'm terrible at them

Not since I was about 6, and even then I think it was one within a bowling alley/general leisure centre. And I couldn't make the bloody things work most of the time anyway, but then I was about 6 and the machines were probably crap too.

I was never much of an arcade kid but I used to hang out in the arcade sections of movie theaters when I was younger.
