Well if they're worried about creepy explicit graphics, how about less visual and more audio?

I don't think it has anything to do with the graphics, but more the overall presentation and connection to the game's story.

If it's done with a sense of taste and style and it fits the game, there's no reason not to do it. On the other hand you can have the best graphics in the world and still have bad sex scenes if they're awkward and/or pointless (which, unfortunately, has usually been the case in videogames so far).

Some of the scenes are OK, but they should just put them in FMVs instead of trying to work with them in engine.

I haven't played a game with a sex scene yet (other than GTA:SA but I didn't have or want the mod) so I guess I have no opinion. I don't think that they should stop until they get it right though because it's only through doing something that one gets better at it.

Are you saying that they should take the Fable approach or the GTA hooker approach?

Why do we even need sex scenes in games?

I kind of hate sex scenes in games. They aren't interesting or for that matter hot to watch. They're mostly embarrassing for me. So unless there is a REALLY good reason to throw something like that into a game then no I don't think a game should have a sex scene.
Exactly. If I'm trying to play a game and some animated people start getting it on, I have to constantly try and skip it or make sure the doors are locked so someone won't mistake me for watching hentai or something. It's not fun to watch, especially if it's in a game like God of War. If I'm playing God of War, I want to slice monsters' eyes out with chains, not watch some creepy lesbian sex scene.

I would say hold off on 'em until you can pull the characters out of the uncanny valley, but I would also hold off on sex scenes because censors are assholes compared to film censors. Movies can get away with murder, video games can't even show a guy picking his nose until it bleeds without getting a T rating.

Leave them in and keep working on them. They certainly aren't perfect but I think they do have a role in mature storytelling. If you think they look too odd or unrealistic to wank to then, I'm sorry, but the problem isn't with the uncanny valley it's with you.

I think sex scenes are only good when used in proper context. In Mass Effect you build up a romance and get to know the characters. In God of War you go "A woman! I must have sex with her for that is what women were made for."

I don't know, I think the Mass Effect 2 ones were better, you know, having actual characters that you can feel sympathy towards.
And, of course, the Heavy Rain sex scene, which was very good and nicely built-up in that weirdly romantic sort of way. After the absolutely unreasonable borderline pornography in Fahrenheit, HR really impressed me.
So, the sex scenes are alright, as long as Bioware and Quantic Dream are the ones putting them in their games.

I think they are fine as if. Sure. they might look a little...off, at times. But that shouldnt stop it from been part of it all.

I thought the scene in Dragon Age, although not really all that bad, was done well

I don't generally see a need for sex scenes in games, or at least in most games that currently have them. It largely seems like a talking point to stir up hype with no redeeming qualities. But I can see where they could fit in with the story and be very appropriate, such as in Dragon Age: Origins where you can actually foster a relationship with other characters. In this case, I see no reason to avoid them; the idea that sex isn't appropriate in video games is a holdover from those who think video games are for kids.

That said, unless there's a good argument for it, I see no reason for anything explicit. Having two characters lay down together and fade to black is plenty to get the point across; there is nothing gained through nudity and explicit sex scenes. Those things only provide titulation, which is fine if you are watching pornography, but is uncalled for in your typical RPG. Leave that for the sex games, whose entire purpose is arousal.

Same here. I thought that the sex scene in ME was tastefully done, but when I saw the scenes in DA:O... I think "cringe-worthy" barely begins to describe it. As for the ME2 sex scenes, well... Let's just say that they were an extra reason for my FemShep to remain faithful to her Kaidan... =D

If we're talking about the characterisation in ME2 compared to ME, then yeah. Characters in ME2 were fleshed out a lot more, and were generally likable and believable. I only saw the Liara scene in ME, and I thought it trumped Jack's by a long way. Tali's was very nice though.

Fix the animations first and then look at how to implement it in things like sex scenes.

I personally don't care about the scenes but fixing animations for sex scenes would lead to more realistically moving models everywhere.

If the scene adds emotional depth to the given scene then it is fine, graphics don't matter nearly as much as the characters/story.
But was Dragon Age's awful. They should be more like ME1's.

"No, the scenes are fine as is: 51% (179)"?!

What is wrong with you people?
(If you respond to this question, defending your decision, then you enjoy watching mannequins making out.)

I could take them or leave them, it doesent really matter to me as long as its well done, regardless, I think Games will continue to have sex scenes, because sales have shown; people love pixelated boobies.
