I really don't know to be honest.
Yes they should because it does look really awkward with the Uncanny Valley.
No because why should we wait to make the statement that we want to? As long as it can be at least pulled off I think we should go for it.

GTA: San Andreas Had it right. No, not the unreleased "keep the rhythm" mini game, the "Show the front of the house and hear muffled sounds" thing.

Escaping the Uncanny Valley is just a matter of the audience getting acclimated. We'll never get there if we stop pushing the limits.

I know this because wikipedia told me so... and I'm inclined to believe it. Dude won't stop looking at me.

This is a tough question, because despite the fact that the sex scenes in the Mass Effect series and Heavy Rain (I haven't seen the Dragon Age Origins Sex Scenes) were not very good, the fact that sex was an option shows that videogames, while still one of the less accepted (legal) forms of entertainment are becoming more accepted. It also shows that game designers are attempting to make better and better stories. I personally feel that they should leave them in as romantic relationships help create a more believable character.

Yes they should, and also unnecessary ones that really add nothing to the game but are there for the sake of being there should also be avoided.

Well this poll proves just how much of a sad worthless bunch gamers are.
Sex scenes add nothing to a game. Good writing can show "these two are in love" without needing to show them doing the vertical monster mash. The only reason it's included is to entice gamers. If gamers are truly that shallow (and they are), then it's a sad day for the medium. Still, at least there are some people with their heads on straight.

should avoid sex scenes all together...

Mostly because they VERY rarely add anything to the game and the story.

Fifth option: Games should avoid sex scenes unless they're meaningful.

Seriously, wang and boobs don't make a game better.

(Yeh, I know there's a third body part involved, but rendering that is just creepy imho)

I could do without, regardless of graphics. Why would you want to see a bunch of polygons sleeping with each other?

They should just figure out a better way to stage them. The right lighting can help a lot. So can pre-rendering.

Games should avoid sex scenes until the writers can find a reason for them to be included in the story. Personally, I think they shouldn't show the actual scene at all. Let's just handle it the way some movies do i.e., kissing passionately as the "camera" turns toward the ceiling (or fades to black) or the couple going into the bedroom and shutting the door. The above examples are pretty simple ways to stay tasteful, but not the only ones.

They should, but they won't.

I've never been turned on by a video game sex scene before. Ever. Probably because they never actually show them. Also it looks creepier than a puppet show.

No. Don't worry about the graphics.

The Dragon Age sex scene is probably the single funniest thing I have ever seen in a game. I laughed heartily at that, so any more like them will be welcome.

A lot of them are hysterical though, in how stilted and unrealistic they are.

Also, there are a few cases where such a scene can enhance a story rather than detract (though that is far in the minority), and in such a case I would like it to be there. It should definitely not be present in any other places however (unless, as stated above, absolutely hilarious).

I don't much care for sex in video games. Nor do I really see how they can exit from the uncanny valley, unless you just film two actors doing the dirty. But if that's the case, why not just cut out the middle man and watch pornography?

I don't really consider it in games to be an incentive. It doesn't seem to serve any practical purpose (well, outside of sims.)

Sex scenes can work emotionally with current technology. It can be done with stylized graphics or simply well-directed scenes that don't show too much.

As for whether or not they should be in a game to begin with... I think the same general "rules" should apply as with movies.

And nudity or sex does not equal pornography, of course.

I have never understood the need for sex scenes in games. You can't make it realistic, you can't show too much or it'll be banned, you can't show too little or it won't look like sex, it never works. Honestly, I thought Fable 1 handled sex in the best way I've seen in a game so far: No images, just sounds. It gives you all the room for imagination you need, no awkward or uncanny animation is involved, you can make it sound as explicit as you want and it'll take a lot more of the sounds of sex to get your game banned than the sights of sex. See, if you show certain body parts in a sex scene is enough to get an 18+ rating or worse, but I bet that if you avoid profanity in your uh, sex audio, you can get away with sounds that'll make your hair stand upright. I'm overthinking this, aren't I?

Developers have to grow a pair of balls to show an actual (non-gratuitous, part of the story) sex scene first.

polygonal sex is LOL anyway
