I have no idea, to be honest. I am actually not much of a mecha buff (yet), beacuse I only developed an interest for the genre relatively recently. Even if I was though, I wager they are from some sort of Super Robot show and I dislike most of those.
And yes, sadly, most of the SRW titles will never see the light of day outside of Japan as the amount of licensing required (due to the various shows included) would make it preety much unprofitable (although, with a translation guide, one can play the Japanese versions as well). That might change in the future, given that Namco Bandai now owns most of the mecha-related IP's, but it's still very unlikely.
That said, Banpresto/Namco Bandai is making a DS remake of
Lord of Elemental (originally for the SNES) as part of their Original Generation saga. OG titles include nothing but original characters (with the exception of the
Endless Frontier spinoff), which means they are free of any potential licensing issues. Combined with the fact that Banpresto/Namco Bandai does not have to deal with Sony Entertainment regarding Japanese voice acting (which is suspected to be the reason why the remakes of
Original Generation 1&2 were never translated) and it is not impossible that we might see the new
Lord of Elemental in English. =)

Also, while we cannot expect most games to see an official translation, that does not mean that some of them will not be translated period. Infact, the awesome translators over at Aeon Genesis [http://agtp.romhack.net/projects.php] have translated the original
Super Robot Wars,
Super Robot Wars 3 and
Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden and are also working on translating 4, Alpha, EX and Gaiden (which is the original
Lord of Elemental). In addition, The Romhacking Aerie [http://kaioshin.romhacking.net/] is working on translating D, J, F and F Final. So overall, that is three translation projects finished and eight in the works. Not bad, if I do say so myself.
Anyway, you got me talking about
Super Robot Wars, so I suppose you have earned yourself this:
