Why the hell wouldn't pirates be considered gamers? Anyone that frequently plays and enjoys a variety of video games can be classified as gamers. Therefore, people that pirate video games can be gamers. They're just dicks.

Demos don't give you the full experience of a game. free versions limit you. you aren't a 'gamer' unless you play as much as you want whenever you want or until the game is finished.

Voted yes, not because I hugely agree but because that's a silly question. Also.. haven't demos kinda died out?

When I think "gamer", it conjures the mental image of someone who has put many hours into games, has a knowledge base about the back story to many of the most popular games, has a variety of gameplay styles that the person enjoys and also has extensive experience in playing them.

People who are not gamers:

The person who only plays 2-D color/puzzle games like, Peggle, Bejewled, Minesweeper, Tetris, and Solitaire

The person who only plays online, and only plays so that they can shoot people and trashtalk, often found playing Halo, CoD, and Unreal Tournament.

The person who has only played a limited amount of games, and puts very little time into playing them, basically a person with a life.

I am not here to say whether being a "gamer" is a good thing or a bad thing, but in response to the question, I find it hard to believe there would be someone who qualifies ( by my definition) as a "gamer", but has not spent any money on buying games. The only people who could qualify are game developers or associative buisness employee's who recieve games for free. So, No, I don't think you are a "gamer" if you have never spent any money on games.

IMO
If you game, and you enjoy it and games are a huge part in your life. Then you can call yourself a real gamer.Doesn't matter how and when you acquired the game. Even if you did not pay for your copy of a particular game, you can still be classified as a gamer. Not necesarilly what I like to call an "honest" gamer, but a gamer nonetheless.

The answer is probably no. Playing a game doesn't make you a gamer just like playing monopoly or 1 round of D&D doesn't make you a tabletopper. If your not willing to invest your dough in a hobby then you can't claim to be held under it's umbrella.

Konrad Curze said:
Yes. Because to put it simply. Games started with shit like pong and tetris. Stuff that nowadays "gamers" would say do not make you a "real" gamer. Yet as someone who started their gaming life with these things I can happily say "fk you" to anyone who claims you have to play X generic shooter for X hours a day to claim the title gamer.
You play a game, no matter what it is or if its free and you can call yourself a gamer. End of story.
There's a difference between 1337 fags who play ~insert shooter here~ constantly and what this story is actually about. What it's saying is that if you don't pay money, can u be considered a gamer?

I never understood these kind of questions...

Are you playing a game? Yes? Then you're a gamer.

Softcore, hardcore, mediumcore, medium rare, rare... Whatever. If you play games, you're a gamer.
