Grim Fandango would be my choice.

I find it curious how Ebert and others constantly hold Citize Kane up as the epitome of cinema. Have any of you actually seen Citizen Kane? Do you know how mind-numbingly boring it is? Suffice to say it hasn't aged well despite being great in it's day. This being the case does it really deserve always being held up as this shining beacon of cinema?

Kind of off topic. Grim Fandango anyway.

The Dig. It's a fantastic story with beautiful scenry (for the 90's) and some of the set pieces were just amazing. Combine that with a haunting soundtrack and I can't imagine any other way an artistic video game could be.

I think Okami is the best "art" game out there. The design of the game combined with the use of painting as a means to using abilities really brings out the art aspect of the game. Not only are you looking at art playing this game, but in some ways, you can feel as if you're creating it.
Same here, what I don't understand is how Jade Empire was put in there. I love the game, but as an arty one? I dunno.

Cave Story. Other games would be wise to implement its style of storytelling. Because its implementation is amazing.

Also, you can't deny the genius of "Moonsong." You just can't!

Killer 7

seems to me that it was pretty much made for its own sake, to experiment, to push boundaries, to make you think.

There are plenty of others that are artistic in a literary or cinematographic or purely visual sense, for example Bioshock, Mass Effect, Braid, whatever...

but Killer 7 is the one for me, for its self-indulgence and originality.

For me has to be games like ICO and Shadow of the Collossus. They are so beautiful, and the detail put into the world really just blows you away

I don't think of portal as an "arty" game, more of a tech demo that was fantastic, so I picked braid.

I'm still sticking with Today I Die (too lazy to find a link, but it was featured on Alt-Escape and I'm pretty sure it's the first Google hit for its name). Not only is it very art while still retaining a game aspect, it's a five-minute, highly emotional game, so if someone is just telling you 'find me one game that can be considered art!' you can point them to it and be done in five minutes.

Plus, I'm Brazilian, and the game having a Portuguese version works well for me.

Worms. There was this time I named a little worm Edmond, he was real good at what he did though what he did wasn't very nice (you can tell he's a comic geek secretly) and right at the end he...he... died. Excuse me, I have to- *runs off hiding his face*
