Im a self confessed wow addict and have tried to quit several times....usualy i last a few months/weeks then go back yay for willpower but anyways

i was wondering if anyone here has successfully quit wow (and by this i dont meen played till lv20 then got bored others like me who cringe when we see blue quality gear) and how the hell you managed to stay off it.

one person suggested deleting my toons but im not sure i can bring myself to wiping my 310% mount :(

when asked what i did for a living i said i was a jewlcrafter and a blacksmith the other day, enough is enough me thinks lol so pls help me !!!!!

I quit in June. Left my guild and transferred my main off the server I had been playing on for 4 years. I refuse to delete my beloved shaman...even if he is a fat cow.

Coming from someone who has 5 lvl 80s, I quit in late may on the hopes that Starcraft II would be released in the fall.

But woe is me to believe Blizzard, since they pushed it back to 2010, I've got nothing to do other then play WoW.

Starcraft II will be my WoW killer, and I think Blizzard knows that at least 15% (or dare I say more) of their WoW population are avid SC2 or Diablo III fans, and I think they'll know what will happen when they are released.

the first step is confession, that's covered.

now the second step: shock therapy.

if you live through that we will move to step three (gotta figure out a step three)

delete all your connections to the accursed WoW: your characters, your account, and whatever the 'ell a "toon" is.don't become upset, you won't need it anyway.

now go and try to get a new hobby.

Grow balls.
Realise it's a game.
Stop playing.

It's really that simple, people make too much a big deal about WoW.

Realise how badly they're destroying WoW(only works when you've been playing pre-BC) and that day will probably be the last day you're going to play the damn game.

It worked for me.

What I did was systematically delete or give away all my items. I started out with the small things, then worked up to armor/prof items, then epic armor/mounts. After all your stuff is gone, then start deleting all your characters. That's how I did it.

I played Guild Wars, it free so I had no problem quitting.

It just a willpower thing and the fact your paying for WoW that makes you want to keep everything you have payed for.

Haha same as me. Except Id been playing 2 years and my cow was a draenei. Still a shaman though.

I quit because my server was full of arseholes who wouldnt talk to you unless your avatar had tits.

But yes I was having withdrawal symptoms but I vowed to stay of it so what I did was go on the change my password thing and slam my head on my keyboard for a while and saved it as that. Then I changed secret and answer and question by doing same thing on the answer.

Nobody will ever get into my account. Mwahahaha.

Fill the void with Guild Wars. Join ussssssss...

EDIT: OT: I know from experience that you can't just quit your main hobby. Otherwise, you'll just be sitting around bored until you realize you were happier when you were playing a game. Find something you like to do, and form a hobby out of it.

Should step 2 not work:
Step 2 1/2: cold turkey: Unplug his internet!
If that doesn't work,
Step 3: BLOW UP THE INTERNET! MWA HA HA HA HA HA!

But furrealz, systematically delete/give away items starting from the small things.

Welcome to the Escapist. And if you're here to stay, work on the grammar.

Have a nice stay.

I stop when I feel like it... I have alot of will power but right now in my life I've very little else to be doing. So its a decent time waster.

I dunno how to adivse someone like you really, I quit things at the blink of an eye if I notice they're making me into a shitty person. But ...WoW's okay for me right now, I still do other things...on a computer. (No monies to go out *cry*)

Just... Cancel the subscription? Maybe?

Uninstall WoW and try immediately occupy your time with other things.

I just quit cold. It's not that difficult. I played for a couple of years and then just canceled my subscription one day.

Step 1) Ask a loved one to delete everything for you.
Step 2) Begin life anew.
Step 3) <color=red>*deleted by person in high position*
Step 4) Profit.
(Just kidding... I couldn't resist)

Easy, no?

put all the money you would have spent on your sub into a piggy bank, then after a few months you can buy a brand new game at (effectively) no further cost. enjoy

Note. this is a known tactic to stop smoking, here's hoping it works for Wow

yeah id go with selling or deleting you toon... at least when you sell it you can feel like all your accomplishments arent going to waist. I used to play, but was never really addicted, just got bored of it after i got to lvl 70 (this was pre wolk). If your re serious about quitting you need to make sure you cant get back to it. The other thing is, instead of just quitting you could just play it casually, limit yourself to 10 hours of wow per week or whatever, and make sure you have someone els monitoring your hours, and not go on raid if you only have 1 hour left for the week etc., this is the harder option, but i dont see why you should have to completely stop doing something you enjoy, you just need to limit yourself.
