RAGE Ps3 texture pop-in, can it be fixed?

Everyone knows about this, texture pop-in in RAGE that's made everyone rage, including me. See, I saw a video of this guy playing, and he looked behind him, it was a mess, then looked away a sec and then back, to see the horrible texture pop-in once again. I thought he was playing on PC, since it's some sort of weird screw up with the graphic cards I heard... Anyway, didn't expect to see the same thing on my Ps3, since hey, we buy consoles to not having to worry about that stuff, so I assumed it would still be ok. Now, after the 8GB install, it's exactly the same as that video (suppose many have seen that video, called "Why? :-(" or something like that), wtf? I mean, this game have been in development for 6 years by a programming genious, and still they release it like this?

Now, to the point, the question that this is all about, is this something that will be fixed/patched to make it smoother and better? Is that even possible or am I gonna have to accept it? I dunno since I don't know much about tech stuff... I wonder this because except the dreadful texture pop-in, the game is awesome, solid 60 fps, and great graphics (once you see them lol) and the gunplay is pretty enjoyable. But the texture pop-in is simply so bad it removes all immersion that could have been, I simply can't get into the game, so I just want to know if it can and will be fixed, or if it wont or isn't possible, because then I will return it without hesitation, just tell me if you know, ok? Pretty please? Will they ever make this otherwise good game playable? D:

Now I know there's alot of Rage threads going around now, but none that really said if it's going to be fixed or not, so if anyone knows anything, just say, if you dunno or are generally sick of Rage threads then you know the way out, thanks!

It's possible it'll be better optimized at some point or another. I'd imagine id is working their asses off to try something out as that seems to be the glaring issue with the game and it might get a bit less flak without that issue.

You know I was thinking about getting this game. I'm borderline about to get it but hearing that this texture shit is hitting consoles I'm backing away from it.

Does anyone know if this has hit the the 360? or just AMD pc's and PS3's

I dunno about 360, it got that huge 22GB install, more or less :p so it might actually run better, although that's alot of space...

But thanks anyway for the reassuring reply :D

I'm trying to reinstall it and see if there's any difference, probably just me being naive :/

How do you turn round fast enough on a console to notice? Maybe they were betting on everyone setting the sensitivity really low?

Honestly? Yes it will be patched, but if my wish would come through it wouldn't,It should teach people about pre-ordering games they clearly haven't researched enough about...

The odd thing is, I've just played for about 40 minutes on a xbox360 with screencapture on (for the job you see :p ) and I did not notice the pop-in textures -at all- and yes I have seen the youtubevid of the PC guy.

Xbox is running smoothly (not installed on the HD mind you, maybe that's the difference? Try playing it without installing. Maybe it helps.)

The only problem I have is with the AI.
It's not dumb anymore :V

I jest, the AI is lovely at evading you and your tools of death haha.
In a good way that is.

Since the game was developed for the 360 and ported to ps3 and pc... Yes, this one is fine.

Still, too bad this all restrains me from buying it. Neta gameplay, I would've forgive regenerating health but no. I won't getting it.
The id Tech 5 engine was developed for PC first.

The issue isn't which platform the game was ported to or from, but rather that both the PC and PS3 versions use OpenGL (not sure about what version is running on PS3, but the PC version is using the brand new OpenGL 4.2), while the Xbox 360 version is using DirectX 9... which is a lot more stable due to having been around for much longer.

All I wanted to say is that this game was developed for consoles (read this in an ID statement). This explains why the Xbox 360 has less problems: Because this game is perfectly optimized for it.
Yes. It was developed for consoles in mind. It's still mainly an OpenGL problem (more specifically driver support).

They were referring to gameplay when they were talking about it being developed for consoles. They designed the game around a gamepad so that they wouldn't have to implement a half-assed control scheme for the consoles once the game was done.

Yeah, it will probably be fixed. Do yourself a favor and abstain from playing it until it has been.

You may want to be more cautious about what you preoder though.
Indeed, perhaps I will, man, I didn't see it coming... The Anarchy Edition bonuses just suckered me in :/

Yeah, but I've pre-ordered games for a long time, it's not until lately stuff like this happens, perhaps because devs need to do such new things and untried things to squeese more out of the current gen consoles? I mean, look at Uncharted 3, I don't think there will be a better looking games on current gen consoles without shit hitting the fan.

Its more down to devs saying "Yeah, we could delay the game or put effort into fixing this shit, but since its the norm nowadays we can sit on our fat asses and patch it a month after release. Maybe. We dont give a shit about the game being broken."
Actually, that sounds alot more likely than my guess :/

I installed it on the 360 and I'm getting pop-ins. First disc it wasn't too bad but Subway Town is just like the PC videos. Pick a direction and pop-ins.

For a PC version fix, see the Steam forums.

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=955

It's not perfect, but it severely reduces the texture pop-in time. Also there is further discussion on the nature of the problem.

I know this isn't helpful for console users, but it should indicate that a fix/patch is coming soon.
