@Hawki That's what I meant by Variety Hawki, I mean with this handheld's specs this game could have taken place only in the space station.

I doubt you can have a fuckin lovecrafitan tenticle planet on a DS though.

You said "vapidity." Vapidity extends to more than just the environments.

I am focusing on enviornments because you wrote off them as "Lava and Ice planet, 'variety'", what I mean is that its a miracle we even had a Lava and Ice Planet at all, because again for all I knew, this could have just been on just the Space Station with the handheld this game is on.

I already get the problem with recycled bosses and not enough personality on the hunters.

Which is funny because Nintendo seems to hype up one of them as being the next bad guy for the upcoming Metroid game:

Well I don't have any Metroid experience (don't know why, but never played it), or any of the JRPG stuff.

So Id be left with F-zero and Starfox mostly on top, because Mario has had as much shovelware under his name as good stuff, and Zelda's had more then a few sketchy entries of its own. Probably with F-Zero beating out Star Fox, because I did play that dinosaur planet or whatever it was a couple of times.

(As Pokemon goes, I only tried some rather bland variation my stepbrother had on 64 a couple of times)

Of the ones I've played...

12. Pokemon

Two years ago, it would've been a different story. But I can pretty comfortably say that Pokemon brings me no joy nowadays. I don't hate anything in particular about it, but there's nothing particularly enticing about catching the same bloody Pokemon over and over. Also, for a turn-based RPG, there's almost no strategy to it.

11. Kid Icarus

Look, even in 1980-whenever, this game wasn't that great. The fact that it disappeared into obscurity isn't surprising in the least to me. Two decent platformers and a crappy reboot-qual do not make for a great series.

10. Kirby

Great concept and all, but a) it's too easy and b) this series has done nothing interesting with itself for about 30 years now.

9. Super Smash Bros.

Smash is ultimate multiplayer game in my opinion. I say that because it can be great fun with a few friends/family (provided they aren't ultra-competitive). The solo experience is bland and awful. Hell, at least other fighting games have combos for you to learn.

8. F-Zero

So, to be honest, I haven't played enough of F-Zero as a series to judge it on the whole. What I have played is fun and all, but nothing that made me really want to rush out and buy the other 2 or so games.

7. Star Fox

See above.

6. Mario

When I say Mario, I mean Mario as a whole. Yes, that might be a bit unfair, but I'm not listing every bloody Mario spinoff series. Suffice it to say that while the main Super Mario series has had a few ups (SMB3, World, 64 & Galaxy) and downs (The Lost Levels, Sunshine, 3D Land & all of NSMB) I'm actually pretty indifferent to most of them. Mario Party is the worst, Mariokart can be fun under the right circumstances and the RPGs are way better than they deserved to be. Oh and Luigi's Mansion is pretty dope.

5. Mother/Earthbound

I'm convinced this is the game series all modern Cartoon Network shows take inspiration from.

4. Advance Wars

The fact that this series died so Intelligence Systems could focus on waifu petting simulators disappoints me.

3. Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong Country alone deserves a high position on this list, but there are actually quite a few truly excellent Donkey Kong games outside of that sub-series. Donkey Kong for the Game Boy and the Mario vs Donkey Kong series come to mind.

2. Metroid

Aside from having great gameplay, pacing, atmosphere and music; this is also the only semi-popular Nintendo series I can think of that hasn't been milked for all its worth.

1. Zelda

I don't what is I love about this series. Really, I don't. If I had to guess, I'd say the emphasis on puzzles over combat and/or RPG mechanics as a means of progression, something I don't think I've seen many other games do. Not every Zelda game is a masterpiece, and certainly there's plenty that get more praise than they deserve (Ocarina is a 7 at best and the Oracle games are bland and unoriginal, there I said it). But the ones that are good make it worthwhile, as far as I'm concerned.

Top tier: Xenoblade, Metroid and Super Smash Bros

Great tier: Pikmin, Splatoon, F-Zero

Mid tier: Zelda, Donkey Kong, Pokemon, Yoshi

low tier: Kirby, Kid Icarus, Fire Emblem, 1080 Snowboarding, Luigi's Mansion

Bottom tier: the Wii themed series (sports, fit, music), Tomadachi Life, Miitopia, Art Academy

i'm sure there's more franchise's but those are just the ones i can either list off the top of my head, or haven't played enough of to rank such as the Eathbound series. can't be bothered going through all of them.

i don't count Mario when ranking Nintendo games as everyone knows he has a fuck tonne of games some of which are Amazing and top tier quality, some are average and there are also lots of garbage Mario games.

If thats the case with Mario Games, why single out Luigi's Mansion? And curious, have you tried Dark Moon?

i single out Luigi's mansion for the same reason i single out Yoshi. both of those characters are from the Mario universe, but both of them have had thier own spin off games which have turned into their own franchise's being Luigi's Mansion and the Yoshi's Island series.

i've played both the original Luigi's Mansion and Luigi's Mansion 2. i like both games but the original was great and i like LM2 but it was pretty meh in comparison to the original game so the franchise gets bumped down because of that.

i like Zelda as well, they're great games. but overall they're pretty overrated by the public imo. good games. not amazing games.
