I have seen all of the TV series and movies (although not read the manga series) of Ranma 1/2 and I'm getting moderately confused about it's conclusion. As i recently read the creator of Ranma 1/2 actually hated writing Ranma 1/2 and cannot understand why people love it so much. My problem is, is it as loved as people are saying it is? Because if it was I'm sure someone would have bought it from the original maker and brought it back or the maker would realize that even though this series was completely rushed and she had a stressing time with it that she could take some time to try to turn the story back in the direction she originally wanted it to go and this series would most likely make a come-back. The fact it made made it so large without her putting much effort into it states it is a good show. But this poll is to understand just how much people like this series (if they even know of it and yes there are other polls, in fact there is a website dedicated purely to proving to the creator how well liked this show is). So anyway, thoughts: Good or bad and why?

I liked it, though I read the manga first before I saw the series. The characters made me laugh, the plot line was amusing and it had decent animations/art. I would still recommend it to anyone else today if they hadn't already come across it.

It's okay, but it's one of those series that just keeps going and going and going until it bleeds out.

It was a story of the week kind of thing. It had a very western format in that at the end of every story arc the status quo got preserved, even at the very end.

It's good to read/watch if you are in your teens, I guess.

Lol, the creator does that with pretty much all her titles. Look at Inu Yasha. Both were alright, depending on your taste. I liked Ranma 1/2 more than Inu Yasha, but then they over stayed their welcome and you hit that point where you really just didn't care anymore. At least Ranma 1/2 could throw in different crazy martial arts scenerios, but even that gets stale after awhile.

The only Rumiko Takahashi series I don't feel that way about is the Mermaid one. It never really reached a conclusion, as far as I know, but at least it stopped. And after 4 or so books instead of 30+. Course, I haven't really read Maison Ikkoku, One Pound Gospel, or that one with Lum the alien, so yeah.

You mean Urusei Yatsura.

That's probably the funniest anime I've ever seen. The problem with that series wasn't that it kept going - since the episodes usually consisted of 2 or 3 short comedic stories - but that the overarching love storie between Lum and what's-his-face never really went anywhere.

I never finished the series. The first 10 volumes or so we`re good and after that it just kept getting shittier until I decided to stop buing it around 25th volume.

What? Eternal "will they or won't they" question not resolved in Takahashi series?

Say it ain't so!

The only extended series she's written that actually has a definitive ending is Maison Ikkoku, and it still takes 14 books to get there.

I'm noticing a common trend in these responses that backs up another problem with the creator's devotion to Ranma 1/2. She claimed that she never liked the series, that it was all made on the fly. This explains the ever steepening decline as the series went on. She wanted Ranma 1/2 over from the beginning and when she was closing in to the 'end' she clearly made less attempts at impressing people. Why would she? Would it not suck for her if Ranma 1/2 kept it's original popularity and passed say...Inu Yasha? And it so far it seems like most of the replies have liked Ranma 1/2, at least at the beginning. I truly think if she came back with Ranma 1/2 and actually put effort into it, it could return. But again, that's what this discussion is for. Keep the responses coming people!

I agree, Ranma 1/2 was a fun show. It really wasn't any worse than shows like Friends, Cheers, or Remmington Steel. The show stayed fairly fresh by rotating the large cast of enemies and I always looked forward to what everyday thing would be done up with a martial arts theme next!
