Realtime Worlds Restructuring to Support APB

APB [http://www.amazon.com/All-Points-Bulletin-Pc/dp/B002BS480M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1278600670&sr=1-1] developer Realtime Worlds really wants you to enjoy its game. So much so, it's hiring more people so it can make the game better.

Following the release of its crime MMOG APB, developer Realtime Worlds says it is shifting its focus away from the development process, and is instead gearing up to provide "100% support" for the game.

In a press release, Realtime Worlds said it was planning to increase its overall staff level as it recruited people for "post-launch roles," but that some redundancies were expected as "the game's development cycle changes and a second development project is downscaled."

"APB experienced a very smooth launch for an online dedicated game along with a great reception from consumers and we're immensely proud of the game the team has produced," said Realtime Worlds CEO Gary Dale. "We now have to focus our efforts and resources on running APB as a 24/7 online live operation, creating new content and services for the future and ensuring the best possible experience for the players".

APB has received lackluster reviews so far, but MMOGs are always being tweaked and refined, so hopefully this new focus on support will iron out some of its problems and help the game find its audience.

Well, they are trying at least, which is always positive. Lets hope they can break into something good for themselves

A fair bit of MMOs recieve lackluster reviews upon launch. But that doesn't stop some of them from gradually and steadily picking up speed, like EVE.

If they can run the endurance course, they could do just fine. And it'd be nice to have this type of MMO around as an alternative too I reckon. Can't say really, since I haven't played it though.

Good to hear. Despite the lackluster reviews and the fact I don't have any friends who are going to play, I put in my order yesterday. For some reason, this one has a good vibe. I hope they keep at it because this seems like one that could catch on with content added in an ongoing way and necessary pvp refinements made.

Despite the meh reviews, I'm going to give this game a chance. Not very many original Ip's out this year.

I've put in my order for it. The concept sounds fun, and I really like that you can pay "per hour" instead of per month - it puts less stress on me to actually play the game.

This game is built around the idea of making a custom character, that'll be fun only till you finish making the character, you know, when you actually reach the gameplay

They are pouring all their resources into a gimmick which will enhance only the CREATION OF A NEW CHARACTER. It's going to fail. Hard.

APB is a fun game (to me, at least). The thing is, it's testing exceptionally new waters (asymmetrical gameplay between factions, massive customization, an almost completely PvP-centric approach to content) so there are going to be missteps. That RTW recognizes this and is retooling itself to better handle things is a good sign.

That's because most reviews for MMOs are seldomly complete. I mean, if I were to review WoW only based on my experience as someone who has played a character through level 1-5 instead of say, 80 with all the extra stuff, all the instances, etc, obviously the reviews I give it are not going to be nearly as good.

good, APB sucks. it is the WORST MMO i ever beta tested. after 8 hours i was DONE with playing it.
then you weren't beta testing it.

OT: I was thinking about trying out APB later on once I upgraded my hardware, but so far it looks like a fairly solid MMO, cant wait to see what they have in store for players once they get settled in their post-launch phase.
we tried, we crashed and 90% of the player base was dicking around in the social district. that meant we cant get cash (groups of farmers rape anyone who didnt have friends join with him) and the game was lackluster and was poorly balanced. unless you have 4-5 friends who are willing to join you in your MMO quest on day ONE. don't even bother.
I presume you reported all these complaints back to the developers?

Unfortunately there are many people who regard beta testing as an early access opportunity so they can announce to their friends that they've "played it already and it suxored" and missing the point of what "beta testing" actually provides to a game.

nope. since other players already did it for me in truck fulls. the only thing they did was improve frame rate. they seemed to to want nothing to do with the farmers, etc. hell when my friend bought it on steam, he said the exact same shit i did and said it was a bad purchase. the last beta test before it became the final product was only optimized, they didn't take care of the game breaking exploits the farmers used like the broken back up system and unbalanced guns.
I guess you have to hope these things have been logged but their priorities were on the actual game engine early on... It'll be interesting to see what happens with it in the next few months - only then will we see if they're really up for improving and expanding the game...
