Catchy tune Miss Mayes, nice one. It's something different and new and I think it's an awesome song.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple of songs down the line she'll say:

"Hey! I'm untalented but all you lonely internet guys like me because I wear tight-fitting clothes!"
Pfft, say WHAAAT! She has bags of talent.

Keep doing what you're doing Rebecca. :)

The body suit dancing reminds me of Kate Bush, back when she was all about stage performance. Interesting intro, too, with all the sampling. Have you been looking for a chance to do that, or did your idea for this song flow into it?

The video looked like some kind of soft porn experiment with a fetish for mud.
I object to this. Please read my blog: http://www.gamepeople.co.uk/audioblog_rebeccamayes_22.htm I didn't make this to turn you on but to make a statement about the natural, emotional, earthy kinda love that Heavy Rain almost but doesn't quite portray.

No one has mentioned the armpit hair yet.
I was expecting some kind of outcry.
It didn't turn me on. But it seemed weird, I didn't hear the lyrics well, until I started listening more closely. My guess is that you made such an artistic video because Heavy Rain is anything but just another video game, it's one that dares to play with the human heart. And the reference with the mud looks like a comparison to how far you're willing to go to get your hands dirty, figuratively speaking, to save Jason.

But at first sight, you can't object that this video has definitely got some odd shots, for viewers who never played, saw or know about Heavy Rain.

I wasn't too sure that I noticed the armpit hair, I thought I was mistaken. Apparently, I wasn't. And I have no real objection against it, I guess it's erotic and most certainly wild in some way.

I thought this one was bloody superb!

I love experimental and/or ambient stuff. Really refreshing to hear another style. I love bands/musicians who vary their style.

Great work! You are widening the scope of your styles. It's very exciting to play the video on a Friday evening and to hear something different. Huge respect.

The video didn't seem pornagraphic to me. There was no suggestion of sex at all. If posters think that's soft porn, then God knows how they would view a ballet performance.

Surely a troll.

If "lonely internet guys" wanted to look at women wearing tight-fitting clothes, they've got the whole Internet at their disposal.

Art always has people who like it and people who dislike it but you're not criticising the work, you're sniping.

In fact the post above me (from dex-dex) pretty much sums up what I want to say, nobody is looking for her pretentious bull-shit, all they see is her unitard.

Why did she have to explain what she was trying to show us? Because her message is shit...
This isn't fair comment, it's nastiness.

My fiancée is a trained singer, and she adores Rebecca. So much for your theory, then.
What?

Well my dad is a better trained singer than your fiancée, and he thinks she sucks.

Look guys, just look at how in almost every single one of her 'songs' she gets loads of comments saying

"ATTRACTIV YEH, TOTALLLY WOULD :D:D:D:D:D:D"

In fact the post above me (from dex-dex) pretty much sums up what I want to say, nobody is looking for her pretentious bull-shit, all they see is her unitard.

Why did she have to explain what she was trying to show us? Because her message is shit, and the way she portrays her message isn't particularly clear.

Why do people keep saying they can't hear her, and then say what a great singer she is?

Buh, I dunno, probably being too harsh but y'know, at least she is better than 50 cent or something.
What you say makes me feel sad, but I'm glad you brought it up. Women are panned for being attractive and panned for not being attractive. I feel your anger at the idea that a woman would use her appearance to be loved/achieve fame. My music, my appearance and who I am are pretty interlinked. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea.

To be honest I didn't think you would like the outfit, the armpit hair or the mud. My boobs were squashed into oblivion and I danced like no one was watching. I had mud in my mouth and I smelt like a pond. When I was making the vid a guy turned up in a van with a parcel for me. I was in the garage. When I appeared, with leaves in my hair from the garage floor, he laughed at me for maybe ten minutes. Great! I thought. I look ridiculous.

I had the outfit from a ballet show I did when I was 11years old. Just found it a few days earlier amongst my old stuff. Was pretty excited. I make a point of not buying costumes but just finding what I can find, or making it, so this was gold.

Ok the charger on my laptop's just blown peeps and I'm out of battery in five seconds, it's been nice chatting with you, three seconds, and I like hearing your volatile views, two, bye

I may have my own opinion and feel that this video has a somewhat blurry message to the viewers, given that she's almost sensually rolling in the mud, but your comment is just nasty.

What would you expect from a pretty girl on the internet, who loves to play games and sings about them? Did you really think that everyone would just talk about the quality of her music, her editing skills and the relevance of the lyrics? I'm sorry, but that's just being naïve. Besides, not everyone is watching her to - excuse me for the harsh expression - jerk off to her. A lot of people actually think it's an intriguing concept to see someone sing about video games, be it a male or female artist.

Her underlying message takes some time to ponder about. And yes, I just explained why, in my previous sentence.

The listeners did hear her sing, in the previous songs. Given that she has a professional background as a singer-songwriter, she has some expertise. She may not be the next Beyoncé, and I don't care.

Very good track. I didn't watch the video until after I saw the comments here (don't take that in a bad way, I appreciate the amount of work you put into them but I'm working while I listen) and I don't quite get why some people are saying it was sexy or anything. Maybe for those of us with a horn.

Not denying you're a looker, but I don't quite see their reasoning.

EDIT: I'm also waiting for the inevitable comments on the river or the cows from people not knowing how damn clean most of our county is (or how curious cows are).

AWESOME!!

Finally something with a little more experimental(darker)side compared to your usual stuff.

NEVER put a damper on your creativity with hesitations such as the wishes of your audience, what you usually do or if it fits the image you have created of yourself.

Just follow the notes and let them guide the way....

Mud writhing and communing with cows. There's a message here I'm not too proud to say I didn't quite get before reading the comments, but I think I prefer it when the mystery remains. Maybe I'm just unpleasable.

Speaking of unpleasable...

Nah, I'm not even going to go there. Nice video, if the different way of mixing (less voice more instruments) was deliberate then I liked it a lot, if it was accidental, you should do it more. This is in no way a comment on your voice, I just think that having some songs where the voice is treated like another instrument rather than the main feature could add something new.

I'm not entirely sure what I just saw and heard. It was unique. It was moving. And it was very honest and sensual.

I'm glad Ms. Mayes isn't afraid to experiment, to play with our expectations, to do something new. I didn't even notice the armpit hair she mentioned because I was completely floored by the originality of this piece.

Rebecca, let the nay sayers say nay. Let them say whatever they want, in fact. Just please, for the love of everything sacred, do NOT stop being who you are or doing what you do.

Cheers.

I'm honestly not sure what to say about the video. I, like some others, actually found it more disturbing than anything resembling erotic.. but perhaps that was the point. As you touch upon in the linked blog, there is an odd juxtaposition between the love as seen in something like Heavy Rain and the more physical emotional concept of love we are all more familiar with.

Musically, however, I loved the song. Great work as always.

Have you put any thought into captioning your lyrics at the bottom of the screen? I have a hard time deciphering the words in this video and several of your previous videos. I am not saying music is reliant on deciphering the lyrics, but without them these videos are little more than a melody with screen captures.
