I'm with the President on this one.

I also agree with the earlier poster saying the words weren't clear. I could hear the beat and the music and the tones, but not the words.

Maybe this makes perfect sense to people who've played the game a lot but to me it looks like a rather ... LSD-based ... mixture of game footage and muddy women fetish footage.

So, overall, what the hell?

Not that there's anything wrong with that. Not at all.

Sorry to say I didn't like it at all. I had come to expect a certain style and tone from you that I found refreshing and original, and this just seemed like a experiment in soft porn.

I respect your desire to try something new and different from what we as the viewers have come to expect, but I could hardly hear your singing and your melodious voice and moving words are the best part of your music. So sad to barely hear them. :(

Also, didn't get the mud :/ Nor the bright outdoors, cows, and leotard. Had nothing to do with Heavy Rain from my perspective. Tho is someone does and can point it out to me I would be glad to listen. :)

Look forward to more unusual and gratifying music from you to my gamer soul. XD Keep on doing what you love.
I love the irony of the fact your saying you didn't like it because it broke away from the normal acoustic stuff which by all rights should even make it more original and refreshing.

I also think this brings up a good question about sexuality. An attractive woman in a tight outfit appears on camera. We see that she moves seductively through gray skin and atmospheric music. We have stopped caring about what she is doing because an attractive woman dancing in tight clothes can only be displaying her sexuality. She could be soliloquizing Shakespeare's sonnets with a pure conviction of love, but her slender shapely body drowns out her voice and all we see is what we choose to see. An attractive woman has no voice in mainstream world and her shouts through damp mud and cold still water boils down to the one thing that we expect all attractive women to be, and that's why we do not see women but sex.
Who's "we," white man?

There are a hundred ways in which she could've been able to recite Shakespeare or do interpretative dance and noone would've lost attention to what she said. If I started doing the same bit in the exact same outfit people would cry outrage at the display my podgy body in leotards. I'm quite sure not one person would've been as positive as the comments above. So the fact that she's an attractive woman nets her múch more attention to what she's trying to say in this particular case. So please do stow the feminism and note the obvious.

You have a point, of course, but I don't think it's as extreme as you say it is. I would watch Rebecca Mayes Muses even if it was done by, say, a middle-aged man. (Although under a different title, probably)
Yes, I might not look forward to it as much as I do now, the fact that the videos are done by an attractive young woman is definitely part of why I enjoy them that much, but that's not all, and even though my attention was drawn mostly to the fact that there was a woman in a spandex suit bathing in mud in the latest video, I did indeed listen to the song and thought about what it could mean.

All I'm saying is she doesn't need to do any of that stuff to get higher ratings; I liked her old songs, they're thought through and insightful. This, however, had a 'Quest For Ratings' vibe to it.

I don't know about that, there are better ways of attracting an audience.
Dancing in a catsuit helps but the garage, cows, mud and armpit hair really don't.
If this had been three minutes of her and a lady friend going about some bikini mud wresteling then you may have had a point.
This was just way too creepy/weird to have immediate mainstream sex appeal.

I wouldn't say that female armpit hair in England is a taboo, but I do agree with you about the nature of the fashion industry and its unfair monopoly on female appearance and habits. I am vehemently against the idealisation of the female form in these many advert campaigns and I think your demonstration against that anti-feminist ideal in this video is a skilled and powerful effort.

The song was excellent. We asked for something different and we got it, and the fact that you managed to express such brilliant messages and emotional trauma through it makes it all the better. I hope you do more stuff like this in the future, Rebecca.

No one has mentioned the armpit hair yet.
I was expecting some kind of outcry.
Whatnow? *checks video again* Ah. There it is. To be honest, I didn't even notice it, and probably would have gone on not noticing it if you hadn't mentioned it!

I really like what you're trying to do with the follicle revolutionary thing :p
You're absolutely right, the human body is far too often held to unbearable standards.

"Emotional controls are pretty frustrating. But this enacts our relationship with emotions perfectly - they're not easy, straightforward or logical and they create a big imperfect mess of reality, a bit like the controls for Heavy Rain.."
I have to say I agree!!
Bloody six-axis messed with my head on more than one occasion!
Thanks for the blog post too.

My nickname amongst my friends is "Hairy Dave" (partially to distinguish me from a plethora of other Dave's!) so I think I know something of the way people in the west anyway (Ireland is similar to England in its horror of body hair) freak at the sight of the faintest notion of animal ancestry :p

Also, the mud was a very ballsy performance art move... talk about suffering for your art! That can't have been pleasant to be smudging yourself in :p

Really interesting direction you've taken there, Rebecca. Musically, I thought it was very different, and that's always good. That said, I think your usual style is just as awesome.

PS
I hope you rewarded your travails dancing in a cold garage and mud wearing with a long hot shower :p

No matter what people say, this video was sexual. Artsy, but still sexual, and I don't believe for a second that Rebecca Mayes did that unintentionally. She seems to be a smart girl, and as such she would be smart enough to realise that she will be get a lot more hits and popularity by doing a sexual video, for guys enjoying the sex appeal, and the controversy it would cause.

I don't disagree with it by any means, but all I'm saying is that Rebecca Mayes deliberately made it sexual, and is probably only denying it to stir up more controversy and discussion.

It was definitely a quite distinct approach compared to the other music and videos which in itself is always a GREAT THING. Switching things up always helps the creative process and brings new direction and heightened originality to an artist's repertoire of work. Great job!

Hrmm... I liked almost all your previous songs, but this one is just a bit too... Well..like, trying to be a bit too hard to be art to my likes.

Overall keep doing what you are doing.

I was quite taken aback by the armpit hair, and I'm really surprised not as many people have commented on it.....granted it was intentional after readin Rebeccas post but...it was kinda weird seeing the hair on a chick.

All in all however it was an interesting video, I've never been a big fan I just sort of appreciate the songs, I kinda miss the subtitles however

I'm sorry, was there a song?? All I noticed was rebecca in spandex rolling around in mud. My ears aren't of much use to me in situations like that so I think my brain turns them off
