Rebellion Engulfs Mass Effect 3

A free DLC pack adds new maps, characters, and weapons.

For a game that came out almost three months ago, the Mass Effect galaxy still needs an awful lot of saving. No matter how many times galactic heroes team up in the Galaxy at War multiplayer mode, more Reapers, geth, and Cerberus members swoop down on them like ravenous vorcha, and BioWare sees no reason to stop the swarms now. Like the Resurgence [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/116678-Free-Mass-Effect-3-Multiplayer-DLC-Coming-Next-Week] pack before it, the Mass Effect 3: Rebellion DLC pack will introduce two maps, six characters, and an assortment of weapons in addition to a few other goodies. Best of all, the whole pack will be available free of charge in less than a week.

The secret of Rebellion has been out for a few weeks [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/117285-Sony-Outs-Rebellion-DLC-for-Mass-Effect-3], but BioWare has only just verified it. While the package will introduce a new shotgun, assault rifle, and sniper rifle, the real meat and potatoes of the DLC are the new maps and characters. Firebase Jade is a jungle environment, while Firebase Goddess will return players to the asari homeworld of Thessia. New characters include male versions of the quarian infiltrator and engineer, two ex-Cerberus soldiers (a vanguard and an adept), and two vorcha: a soldier and a sentinel. This represents the first time that the violent, somewhat unhinged race is available in a playable capacity in a Mass Effect game. Players will also find themselves responsible for picking up a package and escorting it to a drop-off point as a new objective during certain enemy waves.

Would-be galactic saviors should be advised that while the two new levels will be playable right off the bat, they will have to unlock the rest of Rebellion's content via supply packs, same as any other character or weapon. Furthermore, the download will only be free for those who own a Mass Effect 3 online pass, although one must wonder what someone without an online pass would want with a multiplayer DLC pack in the first place. Rebellion will be available for download on May 29 in North America and European PCs and 360s; however, European PS3 owners will have to wait until May 30 for the pack. BioWare did not give a reason for the one-day delay, but no one ever said that smuggling packets of resistance data past the Reaper invasion of Earth would be easy.

I would like to see some more modes or a new enemy (my vote'd be for the Collecters) but at least we're getting a new objective and a new equipment slot. More than the last DLC brought us. Not quite sure if that's enough, but it's better than nothing.

As for the DLC itself, I'm quite interested in how the Ex-Cerberus will handle and I'm quite happy for the Vorcha coming. Always been fascinated by them for some reason, especially how their society works and how primitive they are.

Side note: I literally just posted a thread b/c I didn't see this up already, just as I finished (and re-entered the catchpa) I see this! Damn my long windedness and slow typing!

honestly this. It's nice they are adding stuff in like this, but new game modes would really spice it up (hell I'd prefer doing some missions co-op with friends, rather than just horde. I'd be tempted to pay for something like that.)

Damnit Bioware, hurry up and release the Extended-Cut DLC!
and also this. I pray the extended cut isn't hurt from all this multiplayer DLC crap coming out.

regardless, still disappoint in the ending, just hopefully a logical disappoint...at this point.

Really? The Krogan are neither violent nor at all unhinged? I find that hard to believe.

Violent, yes. Unhinged, not so much. Krogan are kind of like Mass Effect Klingons. They even got Worf to voice act one of them.

I love it how no-one seems to care about mass effect anymore. so much rage at the time and now only a latent bad taste in the mouth as it fades into being collectively forgotten.

It is because both EA and Bioware played their cards wrong, so by the time the extended DLC comes out nearly no-one cares anymore.

In the end bioware killed their own IP.

So, are people still playing the multiplayer? Playing a Vorcha actually seems kind of fun.

Quite a few of us do still play, myself included when I'm not at University I think there is even a player made group who help others on the harder difficulty who call themselves the Legion Effect.

Not sure what to make of the Vorcha I'd imagine they are going to be like a slower but harder hitting Drell... Low shields high health with a lot of firepower behind them, still the DLC is free which is always great.

Just so you know everyone, I don't think this stuff is free because Bioware and EA are being generous. It's a marketing strategy. The free dlc will get many of the people who have stopped playing back for more, and many of those people will be spending there money on equipment packs. If these dlcs had a fee on them less people would want to come back and buy equipment packs.

I'm still happy about this though.

If I am correctly informed, all the multiplayer was, and is done by a new branch. It is their startup project, they were originally working on a standalone multiplayer masseffect game that fell through. So their is very little chance of any of it having effect on the main game in any way

Otherwise I agree with the need for new enemies possibly the 3 merc groups from 2. Also a kill the boss objective that spawns a unique enemy, and possibly gives more money, would be awesome

Good to know. The little bits I got to play were quite fun, but then my PC broke down (before I was even able to play the infamous end, I might add). I'll give it a look again once I manage to repair my computer.

I didn't really mean fun to play in a mechanical way, but more as in funny concerning the "unhinged" part. "Waah, I'm a Vorcha! Barely intelligent enough to speak, but I'm going to help save the galaxy!" Like ... a Krogan on Red Sand, or something.

He said THE violent, somewhat unhinged race, not A violent, somewhat unhinged race. There is a difference.

I do hope they put in little funny comments for the Vorcha to say. I think it'd be nice to see that someone at Bioware is having fun with their assignment and adding levity to their work. Vorcha Sentinels are also getting a flame thrower ability too, so there'll be fun times all round.
