Recommend me a game with a lot of grinding

I have been under quite a lot of stress lately, and I need some new games to help me relax and avoid thinking about stuff.

Something I can preferably play while listening to music or podcasts, that involves repeatititive grinding or treasure-hunting, and preferably with a pretty forgiving gameplay without much need to pay attention.

The LEGO-games have been good for that but I have 100% completed all I can play.
Also Pokemon, with it's Pokedex-filling.

I know a lot of you are going to suggest MMO's,but those will just stress me more. I can't play something with other people I don't know running around, even if I don't have to interact with them.

Do you have a 3DS? (I would think so, you said you enjoyed pokemon). The new Bravely Default RPG has a lot of grinding in it. Plus its a pretty good RPG.

Though I dont know about forgiving gameplay (bosses can be long and sometimes with cheap mechanics), you can adjust the encounter rate and difficulty at any time.

If you have a 3DS then you could play Fire Emblem Awakening and grind to level up your characters. Just make sure to play it on the mode where deaths are not permanent.

If you have a gaming PC then Terraria or Minecraft. Just go all out hunting for a particular block and that can get pretty grindy.

Skyrim on easy mode? You could basically hunt down plants and stuff for alchemy.

How do you feel about racing games? Something like Forza is great for having your own music or podcasts in the background.

I have heard a lot of good things about Bravely default. But a lot of it has been about how it's refreshing, which I took to mean 'not grindy'.

I forgot to mention that game. I've grinded it for supports, and it worked well for what I need.

No, so far its grindy. I'm still in the early chapters and I feel like I got to gain a few levels before even continuing. Though Im also sticking to normal mode and refuse to change to easy mode.

I've heard it gets real grindy near the end of the game though.

If you ever played the early FF games, (like FF3) its like that, you get barely enough exp to beat the level you on, but the next area requires alot of grind to not die from the simple mobs.

Pretty much any mainline Dragon Quest game will do. Grindiest games that ever grinded outta grind town.

I say Minecraft. You can spend hours upon hours branch mining at the diamond level. It doesn't require too much thinking, yields a lot of resources, and allows you to build the gigantic ************* you've always wanted.

Any game in the Disgaea series. The game is literally about grinding.
There was even an article on the escapist about it a long time ago titled "Grinding to Infinity"

You could always try one of the Fallout or Elder Scrolls games. Open world exploration, storylines exist but can easily take a backseat to the exploration, and the combat is pretty forgiving if you don't set the difficulty settings overly high.

Right now I just started playing Skyrim again because it's been bugging the hell out of me that I haven't actually beaten it yet (despite having put over 200 hours into it across multiple characters). I've mostly just been wandering around, exploring random dungeons, and listening to podcasts in the background. If you play as a Conjurer you can drastically reduce the game's difficulty, as the summonable Atronachs and Dremora Lord are absurdly powerful even on Legendary difficulty.

Well there's the Disgaea series.

The lv. cap is technically 9999, but you can go FAR FAR beyond that by reincarnating your characters over and over.

Borderlands 2.
First playthrough not so much.
Second play through you better grind like a Tony Hawk Game or everything you love will be destroyed.

Shin Megami Tensei games. Nocturne, Strange Journey, SMT IV, Digital Devil saga 1 and 2, Devil Survivor 1 and 2 and the Persona games are all great for grinding.

Any Dragon Quest game. They are basically 90% grinding.

Minecraft with the Gregtech mod. If you want to get really crazy don't use Buildcraft or Thermal Expansion (if you do use TE, make sure its set to hard mode or it defeats the purpose). Definitely no computercraft, use opencomputers if you like that stuff.

Start by punching trees (for a quarter as many sticks as vanilla) and gradually move up to strip mining and automated megafactories.

Final Fantasy for the NES. In that game you don't go out of your way to grind. That game is a grind. Although if you're not feeling masochistic you could play the easy versions (GBA or PSP) which still have grinding potential. Grinding to level 99 in the PSP version is actually very doable even if you don't have hours upon hours to spend.

Same goes for Final Fantasy II. Perhaps even more so due to the way the levelling system works.

Dragon's Crown is pretty grindy. It is a sidescrolling beat 'em up though so it requires a bit of focus.

I was actually going to suggest this as well. Dragon Quest IV, V, VI, and IX are all on DS and are perfect for tons of grinding. The combat is easy to learn, but still manages to remain challenging.

Final Fantasy IX can be pretty grindy if you want it to be.[footnote]Killing like 100 dragons to level up the Dragon's Crest attack to deal 9999 damage for example.[/footnote] And it's not very hard. It's also one of the most beautiful games on the PS1, only downside is the loadtimes can be substantial.

Kingdoms of Amalur. The game is a grind fest. It's a single player game that should have been an MMO. I think that was the original idea of the studio behind it. Combat is action based, pretty and easy so you don't have to worry about any tactics. And there's a lot of grinding quests for everything you can think of.
