Out of those, I've seen Excel Saga (heartily recommend) and Neon Genesis Evangelion (give it a look but it's pretty love-or-hate.)

So like action/fantasy stuff? I'm not that familiar with that kind of stuff, especially the super long series. I hear Samurai Champloo is really good. I've seen a few episodes and it seems to be of high quality. Bleach is also a popular series of that kind. Maybe more similar to Naruto. I watched most of the first series of that and it was okay, but I couldn't get in to it myself. But it's worth a look. It's a really long running series. And although it's not really too similar to those series, I might as well recommend Avatar: The Last Airbender or Legend Of Korra too. It's a really good series and it's only a matter of time before a conversation about anime on this site will mention it.

As it seems you´re into the Shounen/Fantasy genre, try Fairy Tail.

Rurouni Kenshin, also known as Samurai X.

I've recently come across Neon Genesis Evangelion. You might enjoy that if you don't mind a few... Psychological screwdrivers in your brain...

Code Lyoko is French in origin, and is meant for kids/teens, but I found it to be a highlight of my childhood. It's not Japanese in origin, but it is actual animation, instead of the cut and pasted crap you see nowadays.

If you're looking for something comedic in nature, I recommend Bo bo bo bo, bo, bo bo bo.... Just look it up...

If you don't mind horror, and, well, horror, I highly recommend The Karas Series...

Now, I've seen the original highlander, and I've also seen this anime adaption to it. And believe it or not, it's actually very good, perhaps even better than the original movie. I believe it's called Highlander: The Search for Vengeance...

That's about it, if I have any more, I'll get back to you on it.

Try animefreak.tv (I think its legit so please don't shoot me if I'm wrong mods)
I second animefreak. Its where I find most of my anime, even when I end up downloading it myself sometime later.

I also second that giant list; some of anime on that list are garbage imo, but considering OP watches Naruto, he might enjoy them.

A few? That's an understatement.

OP: Highschool of the Dead is an interesting show. At first, it plays like an anime highschool drama but shit goes down and there are zombies. However, it can get kind of gruesome and there's not really a female character that isn't a heap of fanservice.

With Fullmetal Alchemist, did you watch the first series or FMA: Brotherhood?
Brotherhood follows the plotline of the manga much more strictly, whereas the original anime sort of took off in its own direction (and got pretty darn wierd, from what I hear). The first 13 or so episodes of Brotherhood can feel a bit rushed, since it's catching up to where the original stopped following the manga (after the 5th laboratory plotline), but if you can get past that, it's a great series with a much more satisfying ending than the original, imo.

Hetalia. Each episode is about five minutes each, and it has a nice appreciation of history. The first 52 episodes are on an official Youtube chanel.

And while it may not be an "Anime", The Last Airbender/Korra. Hell, its better than most Anime I have seen.

Pokemon Black and White. It is at least 50 times better than any other one produced so far.

Shounen Maid Kuro Kun. Just make sure you can handle it. And erase your history afterward.

Crunchyroll.com has a crap-ton of anime for free, if you don't mind subtitles, and its legit. Durarara! and Sket-Dance are to of my favorites. They also have a ton of stuff I've never even seen. Baccano! is also good, and that's on the Funimation site, which has a bunch of their shows and is also legit.

I second Samuri Champloo, though you will have to search for a free version of that, it is on Netflix however.

If you like Fullmetal Alchemist, they have a second run of it which is closer to the manga, called Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I finally just finished it, and its fantastic and different enough from the original that it will still keep you on edge.

Cowboy Bebop is a classic. Sci-fi cowboy adventure

I would say try some out is the best way. D-Grey Man is decent, Bleach is very good, Ghost in a Shell is a good sci-fi one, heard good things about Clanad (sp) and Black Butler. FLCL is another classic, out there anime.

Hulu doesn't work in Canada =|
Well it sorta does, but it is really annoying to work around...

Also, Funimation has a lot of anime on their youtube channel. I watched all of Birdy The Mighty on youtube before buying it. I also watched Fullmetal Alchemist and Rideback on their channel.3

1. Go to a database of Japanese animation
2. Search for highest rated/most popular stuff from genres you like
3. Search for similar works (optional)

I don't generally like anime as I have family members who try to shove it down my throat. However, the only two anime shows that have really caught my attention to the point where I was intrigued after the first few episodes were Code Geass and Higurashi. Code Geass is a pretty decent sci-fi/alternate history narrative that has pretty solid characters and Higurashi is just... well you need to see it for yourself. I don't want to explain Higurashi because it's best if you go into it not knowing anything about it. Just at least watch the first few episodes. Aside from those, I can't really get into any other anime.
