I'd like to read some good comics, so reccomend me some good ones. Obscure ones, please - give me the name of the most obscure great comic/manga you know.

So I'll kill anyone who mentions Watchmen. It's not obscure. I want unknown stuff, stuff people haven't heard about even though it's really great. Like The Tale of One Bad Rat by Bryan Talbot. Don't limit yourself to any particular kind of comic.

I guess it isn't obscure, hell it might even be mainstream, but I hadn't heard about it until recently, so here goes:
You should read Vagabond. [http://myanimelist.net/manga.php?id=656]

It's pretty cool.

Not sure about comics, but I know of one manga that's pretty obscure, but I love it. It's called Franken Furan (Fran).

Warning though, only read it if you can handle gore and EXTREMELY dark humor.

The basic premise is this: Fran is a sort of super-amazing teenage surgeon girl. So amazing, in fact, that her operations are nothing short of miracles... or slaps in the face of God. Depends on your perspective.

Each story usually begins with Fran being presented with some sort of opportunity to use her amazing talents. But... things never go quite right. Oh, the operations are successful... but the patients usually get MORE than they bargained for.

For example, in one story, she finds a girl who's just been gravely injured. She saves her life, but... well...

WARNING, SPOILED FOR "OH MY GOD"

So, yeah, if you looked at that, you've got a pretty good idea what this manga's about. Highly recommended, if you're into this sort of thing.

Uzumaki- If you like horror manga, than you must read this. Also, look up some of Junji Ito's other work, like Tomie, Gyo, or Mimi no Kaidan.

Helter Skelter- Very similar to Perfect Blue. While the art isn't great, it's a very interesting read.

Ibitsu- A very fun read if you're looking for a good, bloody slasher manga.

I've read Uzumaki, Tomie and Gyo. I'll check out the others, though.

Seems pretty cool; I'll give it a chance.

Great art, great story, all available online along with similar works by the same creator.
Worth checking out at least.

For the love of god please tell me if that's permanent or not...

Read the manga yourself if you're THAT curious. I'm fairly certain that's one of the first stories anyways, you won't have to read for long to find it.

All three volumes free from the author himself!
Thanks a million! I've got comics by him in my bookshelf and I had no idea that he had made a webcomic!

It may not be the most obscure manga but I love Petshop of Horrors. It isn't really scary despite the title but the stories are really clever and center around rare animals and/or mythical creatures. I think the original series is made up of only 10 books and since then there is a newer series which takes place in Tokyo which I'm not nearly as familiar with.

The first series is really good, the second isn't as good but still worth reading.

I know it really isn't that obscure but I really think more people should read Berserk. I have never read anything that has even half the amount of character depth this manga does. It is really well written. However if you can't handle gore very well it is set in a realistic Mid-evil setting so things can get gory.

OP, there was a somewhat similar thread (solely for regular comics) here. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.380920-recommend-me-obscure-comics#14984658] My suggestions are there.

However, for people asking recommendations in general I would like you all to make a small list of what you have read so you don't get repeat answers.

As for manga, I'll edit my post later.

It got an anime of two seasons. It's no longer obscure.
Now where are my hipster glasses?

Vinland Saga, an epic manga about Vikings that makes years of farmwork and slavery an interesting follow-up to a high action prologue.

There is a manga called Ikigami-The Ultimate Limit. It's a series of venettes that are all intertwined through this one man who delivers Ikigami's. In a version of Japan where random citizens above age 18 are killed everyday, to "show the value of life", those people who are killed are informed 24 hours in advance by the arrival of an Ikigami. Ikigamis are essentially unlimited money for the day, so long as you do not commit a crime or commit fraud with an Ikigami, an act considered high treason.

Binzenghast, is an american manga. I loved the first 4 books, for the art and characters. I reccommend it but I will say it becomes evident the author never quite decided where the story was going to go through out. Furthermore there are character changes in the protagonist where she goes from being off mentally and reserved to...at times a cliched teenage girl, which is saddening.

If you like fighting I suggest Shaolin Sisters, and Shaolin Sisters Reborn. Basically the series focuses on three girls who eventually discover they are sisters(as were there mothers). A mysterious character comes into their life destroying everything they love seemingly

Have a browse of Top Shelf's catalogue [http://www.comixology.com/Top-Shelf/comics-publisher/56-0]. I'd heavily recommend Essex County, Far Arden and Super Spy.

I second this. Uzumaki is pretty great. It kinda flops in the end (at least for me) but that seems to be the theme in Ito's stories. It can get really absurd and really disturbing on the way though. I enjoyed reading it.

Everyone seems to be going manga, so I'll go with comics. The late 1980's brought with it a resurgance of interest in comics, and with it an interest in "more adult" titles. And Marvel came to the party with "New Universe." It was one of the most mis-handled train wrecks in comic history. But there were a few gems. Early (pre white event reveal) "Justice" titles were pretty interesting. A quick read too, a dozen episodes in Marvel gutted it. Nightmask and Starbrand were good NU titles as well. And the "white event" was an interesting idea and angle, but ultimately mishandled. These days the entire thing is a quick and easy read.
