Yes, you read correctly, PS2. I never bought a PS2 and this might seem like a weird time to get one, but I will be moving a lot from now on between two houses, one which has a PS3, X360 and an hdtv, and one that has nothing but a couch, a bed and a shitty old TV, and I really don't wanna carry the PS3 with me all the time and butcher its games by playing them on that TV, so I thought I'd get a PS2 instead and play some of the... low res games that I have missed out on. The edition that I found more interesting comes with Gran Tourismo 4 and God Of War, which should keep me occupied for a bit, but I'm not sure where to go from there. I like all kinds of RPG's (including JRPG's), as well as good action games, plus everything that feels new and innovative (I hear Shadow Of The Colossus falls in that category?). I also need a couple of good coop games to play with my 2 mates, so anything that is great fun for 3 players simultaneously or for 2 player hotseat that can switch around fast enough for the other guy not to be bored. Can you help me out by pointing out your personal must-plays for PS2 on those categories (or other ones too if you think they are good enough to bother)? Also, it's important that they are "famous", and by that I mean "commercial" and easy to find, since I will be exclusively renting from a nearby store which has a pretty decent library but not "super-omgwtf-is this the Japanese collector's edition"-like complete. Thank you!

You must get James Bond: Nightfire. The split-screen mode will provide endless fun.

It's much like an updated Goldeneye 64.

This is quite good, although I played it on xbox. I've played it for quite a few hours.
Otherwise, you could probably try the lego games or shadow of the colossus. Can't think of any more at the moment.

Is God Of War 1 not as good as 2? It comes with the console, but if it's not good maybe I should get a different pack.

Some good suggestions already made, but I have to say...

Okami.

THE best game I played on the PS2, sort of Zelda goes JRPG with really beautiful graphics and a great story. Look it up if you don't know about it already!

God of war 1 is also really good, but i prefer the story, gameplay, and graphics of the second one better.
You should really play number 1 first but if you go staight to 2 the story is easily followed from the last one.

Ratchet: Gladiator.
DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi 3.
Digimon Rumble Arena 2.

Second. A great game to play with friends.

Also suggest GTA: Vice City and San Andreas. They are obvious ones. You can get a pack of three Hitman games as well which have great replayability. Also another vote for Nightfire. DON'T buy Goldeneye when everyone says it's great they mean the N64 one. They released another Goldeneye as a trap for unsuspecting gamers (like me) and it's no where near as fun as Nightfire.

Zone of the Enders 1.
Zone of the Enders 2 (if you can find it. Konami are repackaging and rereleasing it soon iirc)
GTA: VC+SA.
FFX.
Arguably FFX-2 as well, though more for the gameplay than the story. Dress Spheres and Garment Grid=awesome. Story=Shit. Dialogue=Terrible.
Kingdom Hearts 1+2
MGS2+3
Shadow of the Colossus. (When I recently bought a new PS2 as my old one crapped out, the guy recommended me Shadow of the Colossus and told me that 'it wouldn't kill my system', but apparently has been known to...uh, blow up, older PS2 models).
Resident Evil 4 (assuming you've not played the Wii/Gamecube version)
Devil May Cry 1+3. I can't in good conscience recommend you the second one, but if you turn into a DMC fanatic I guess you could rent it or something.
Ratchet and Clank games. There's a few of them on the PS2 and they have weird titles, check Metacritic.
Silent Hill 2 (See ZoE2)
Silent Hill 3
Armored Core 2.
Armored Core 3.
Armored Core 2+3 follow up games like 'AC2: Another Age' and 'AC: Nexus'

That'll do for now.

Thanks for helping me make my list, keep the suggestion coming!

And oh yeah, I guess I really should check out MGS 2 and 3. I've only played the 4th game on the PS3 and loved it, but the story made me feel that I arrived at the party waaaaaaaaay too late, I should fix that.

Nobody's mentioned this yet so I thought I should.
Jak and Daxter.
Specifically 2 and 3 (number one is shite and the racing game was good but I missed the gunz), while it looks kiddy they're both bloody good games.
