I've only played the first one, I found the geomod technology rarely rose above being a gimmick and the story was so amazingly awful and predictable it really detracted from the game. It's rather disappointing to hear that the series has managed so many additional games but still hasn't fixed these glaring problems from the original.

Unfortunately, it has been like this for every. Single. Installment. Instead of thinking up ways to make GeoMod work as a gameplay element, the developers somehow think they have to put gameplay elements taken from other games into the foreground and make their game fun by making it derivative and... well, bland.

RF2: Nearly no GeoMod, straight-up bland military sci-fi shooter.
RFG: Open World. Because it was in fashion.
RFA: Quick-moving aliens, trigger-happy shoot-em-up.

This is not the development team sucking. They are apparently capable of more.

This is specifically whoever wrote the Game Design Document sucking so hard they probably inhaled the entire studio building by now.
