Yeah, I hope you'll excuse me if I don't feel particularly sorry for r/atheism.

Still, at least the end of the video is inaccurate now!
Oh KawaiiPiranha, you so wacky! :D

But yeah I ain't gonna shed much of a tear for r/atheism. It's a crap subreddit filled with petty, hateful people. The only major subreddit I find more pathetic is r/mensrights.

Every default subreddit on reddit is garbage and you should never browse them. r/atheism and r/politics were the worst because they were hateful and incredibly intolerant of anything that went against its status quo (if you practice a religion, you are the scum of the earth; if you lean to the right in politics, you are the scum of the earth). Another thing about r/politics is that it's an enormous sham, every top post on there is done by bots or people who are being paid by the site they're linking to cause controversy and pull in views -- you don't have to look hard to find that evidence. r/worldnews isn't that much different from r/politics

All the subreddits are too big to entice good content and originality -- if your post literally cannot be read in five seconds, it will never be looked at, in favor of more Bad Luck Brians or ISN'T THE LEGEND OF ZELDA GREAT? That's why r/music shuns anything that isn't Radiohead or Led Zeppelin, that's why all the top posts on r/gaming will always be some static image with a few words like "THIS GAME ARE GRAPHICS, DAE?"

So excuse me if I am not excited for more default subreddits, but they never mean anything good for current users.

Reddit's problem is that it's just a massive popularity contest. As the size of a subreddit grows this inevitably leads to images & crappy memes being upvoted as they take less time to digest. Getting rid of atheism/politics as default subs will help for a short period of time but it's a bit like cutting the head of a hydra...

They could talk about the point of living then...But I suppose taking away their trump card would get them whinging like babies.
I wonder if you guys see the irony in your posts.

Isn't it a bit odd to come onto a thread that isn't (yet) about bashing atheists or religious people, and bash atheists, with the excuse that the only thing atheists do is bash religious people? Have you ever talked to an atheist except to bash them? Your post suggests you might never have had an actual discussion with one.

Interesting...after protecting child pornographers, stalkers and other assorted creepers is Reddit trying to clean up their act? At this point it's probably too late.

Hey, it's not our fault it's the religious people that seem to try and shove their shit on everyone else and claim it's for their own good.
Really? Tell me again about the right wing Orthodox Jews that go around trying to convert gentiles. Please tell me about this phenomenon because I have yet to hear about it.

See my previous question but this time tell me how right wing Orthodox Jews are trying to get the US to all follow Halacha Law, afterwards you can tell me about how Native Americans are all trying to get everybody to follow their religious laws and force the US to follow their religious laws as well.

In case its not abundantly clear, Christianity doesn't represent all religion.

This reminds me of a quote by Heywood Broun, "Nobody talks so constantly about God as those who insist that there is no God".

I'll be the first to admit that I lack a lot of knowledge, and am in fact biased. With that said what you two appear to be doing is something called "psychological projection." You guys right now are in fact "bashing" atheists. Then you're ascribing the negative quality that you are exhibiting onto others.

I could be wrong and the simple act of pointing out projection could be projection. So it might just be me, but I'm pretty sure in this case.

No those are born-bred ignorant white Republicans who can't compute the oddity of not only a faith not surrounding an old man with a white beard in a cloud city, but also that people come in more than the color white. Democrats don't give 2 dumps about your faith. I was raised by my parents and basic upbringing to not give a damn about someone's faiths. You are seriously that kind of person that gives atheists bad names.

I'm sorry, I might be misunderstanding this, but was r/atheism something individuals were forced to browse in order to use Reddit?

Because if they're not forced to do it why does anyone give a fuck what people get up to in their own subreddit?

But the whole point having an R&P board here is that it's meant to sequester those topics in their own section.

I thought that would be a good thing...

I think the point its that we don't the 2000th thread on why Christians/republicans/Feminists are evil. All of which consist of the same people saying the same thing for 15 pages each time.

Seeing as how hatred is a form of energy, it does not simply disappear or hide away easily. I'd expect it to spread. Them shitstorms will still be abrewin', just a tad bit less prominently.

People won't change one bit because of hiding the ugly stuff away. It will just, eventually, make Reddit look a bit more friendly to the uninitiated.

I'd also totally expect an influx of hatin' ragin' folks all over teh interwebz, from 4chan to the blinding white pastures of the Escapist. It's inevitable.

Bit off-topic, and I have no opinion on Reddit or it's displayed boards, but can I just say I'm sick of the attitude half of you have where discussion of religion and atheism is immature and the practise as a whole is a stain on the internet's credibility. Yes, atheists 'bash' religion. It's sort of the point. Religion does some horrible things and promotes some horrible views and if you think it's a lie then obviously you have a problem with horrible things being done in accordance with it. You can't just tolerate it away. It's promoting censorship, against abortion and gay marriage, and blocking stem cell research. Before you say "but most religious people are moderate", that's true, they're obviously not the ones in discussions like those.

Yeah, but people, graded on an average, are kinda emotional, stupid and reactionary. It's easier to feel righteous and superior by narrowing ones viewpoint to just the parts you hate while ignoring or denying the other parts.

Same goes for everyone else too, not just the militant atheists (Or Internet Atheists, as the vocal assholes seem to relegate themselves purely to online soapboxes, I've never met an atheist in real life who claimed religion and religious people were the source of all bad things/were morons/inbred/rapists/etc.)

I don't pay much attention to reddit outside of that one board that has those Latvian Potato jokes, so I can't say I'll really be missing a bunch of angry, impotent high schoolers circle jerking about how much they hate religion.

I don't see this helping much but still it's good that Reddit are trying to be less terrible. But /r/Atheism and /r/Politics are only 2 of many, many reasons that site is blocked on my computer.
