I quite like the idea. The lack of progression mechanics means it's designed for competition. Everyone gets the same tools and it's all a matter of how effective you use them.

Also, I'm going to assume it takes no pretense of assuming you give a shit about a singleplayer campaign.

It would be nice to find a shooter other than TF2 that has a real emphasis on balance.

I hate to say it, but it looks kind of boring.

There is something to be said for simplicity, but I can't see it having much depth either. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

I've been saying for a while now we're ready for an FPS game simply called "FPS." There is no story, no single player, the models and environments are very artsy/cell shaded stuff, and you fight people by capturing terminals that allow you to control game mechanics mid match to your advantage.

Basically it's an FPS game that knows it's just an FPS game, and has fun with it.

To me FPS is serious business, and the games are not competitive today at all- CoD/MoH/BF are all the same to me. Too slow, too campy, no dodging, short TTKs. That's why FPS games became a household item. There was no way something like Quake, UTK or Tribes was going to take it mainstream; it was too punishing for people who have no skill and no patience to learn...

They've learned how to level the playing field in the name of commercialization; today it's all about what I like to call the kill circle jerk. In the kill circle jerk, the overbearing game mechanics demand you slow your movement, FoV, turning sensitivity, etc; so you can ADS and shoot a guy... while you're doing that, someone else is drawing a bead on you- and in turn someone else sees that guy and takes aim... and by that time the guy who got killed is spawning back in... and the kill circle jerk continues.

Everyone gets kills, everyone feels good about themselves, and everyone buys the same game next year. Yay!

This is one of those genius ideas in which people usually smack their heads when they can't believe they didn't think of it. Although sadly I don't see it happening.
