That was awesome. Think of how ridiculous Australia banning L4D 2? This is a joke, right?

Yeah, it got banned. Oz's government is composed of a bunch of fascist old farts attempting to cover up their nation's roots.

Excellent summary of the main stories this week. However, I wouldn't consider Bobby Kotick as Ebenezer Scrooge just yet. I understand he's being a total idiot, but I still wouldn't consider him any worse than other high-ranking members of society.

*Looks left and right*

I'll keep an eye out for that cat.

Love the cat, Aussies don't affect me, fruits and animals being banned from scribble for being potentially racist even though their context proves otherwise is quite a concern, and scrooge does it for publicity, promotion, and a guarantee on his investment in the company.

'However, the Australian ratings board countered that in terms of danger to children, games were second only to dingoes.'
I seriously laughed quite a lot to that line.

Really, the first left 4 dead made it through without much of a hitch, despite the dismemberment being close to the same (hell, you can blast a face off with a shotgun at point blank.) It goes to show, our ratings board are full of.. uneducated monkeys (to give it a nice, censored term)

Was that...?

And that...?

And even this:

"We aren't taking any chances by using words that might be misconstrued as racial epithets by people with low IQs and a deep-seeded distrust of technology," said a spokesperson for 5th Cell
Pure gold! Putting down the ignorance, an obscure sitcom reference, a maniacal kitten...even a scrooge joke! Gold, gold, gold!

I think that's what has everyone sort of worried. Is the Australian ratings board getting stricter? Or is this because Valve didn't pay someone a big enough kickback this time around?

The DLC package released will also feature achievements for cheering whenever Cuba Gooding says anything and looking away in ignorance any time Ben Affleck is on screen. While Ubisoft is intent on recreating the experience, they've stated, "We want fewer explosions than Bay's opus, but we're excited about the intensity of the ones we've packed in".

Also, I'm pretty sure Ultrajoe will have some argument with some statements made. Mostly about games and dingoes not being second to the Sydney Funnel Web in terms of danger.

Yea, it has certainly got me worried, if they turn around and say that MW2 is going to be banned because it 'unfairly depicts a person of certain ethnic backgrounds' then we know for certain that the board has gone mad with power. (plus my brother will not get his precious game)

I feel as though the board could ban any game and then justify it with a pathetic, yet well worded, reason.

It may also be something to do with our current government's little thing about 'embracing the digital revolution' in which they promised better internet for all citizens, but then decide that is a good idea to censor what is 'bad for the children' which, as we both know, is actually subjective in terms of what is truly bad for them. Obviously the banning of the game is both a censorship for the children so they are not corrupted by the games violence (i sniggered writing that line, as most of the time the games with excessive gore are played mostly by that age group) and to show the people of the country that the government does have control of what people can and cannot do legally.

For some, like the parents who believe that most of societies violence stems from GTA, this is a 'step in the right direction' and that the children are protected. For others, this is censorship and the government trying to control what we do. If the internet filters go through, what will stop them blocking everything that they see is a threat?

To finish, the Board would not accept bribes as they are the main force of rightfulness in society and the control of the bad stuff in the media is their way of showing it. *cough, Cough*

Honestly, why ban left 4 Dead 2. If they dont want little children playing it, it should be up to the paretns not to buy it for them and the game store guy to not sell it to people undr the age of 18, ive been refused a game because i was too young, pissed me off immensly but it was right of her.

Why should they punish everyone who is old and mature enough to play it, for the few people who cant play the game but want too.

Banning LFD2 for being to graphic is going to make it a big hit, even in Australia where in some (2 IIRC) states it will be as illegal (technically) to possess as kiddy porn.

Duke Nukem was banned and later released with the offending content crippled.
Took 5mins to find and install the patch to re-enable the offending content.

What is the range of Kittens? I live one state over... I hope 2 locked doors (neither of which have doorknobs) will be enough to keep him out.
Great stories as always, I laughed a lot.

Residents should take caution [...] and at all costs avoid wearing clothes with tassels, fringe and other forms of decorative cording.
I think this advice counts regardless of the threat of sociopathic felines.
