Well that sucks, but I have to say 3 things. One how many of those are per-orders? I have been to a few stores around my area that still had consoles, but wouldn't sell them to me since they were unpicked up per-orders. Two I've called every store in about 50 miles fro my location looking for a console and found nothing. yes some places had consoles but like I said, "pre-orders". And Three how many are stocked for Black Friday?

On the other hand, both New York stores reported having absolutely no PS4s for sale, although it is still difficult to make a direct comparison, as the Best Buy clerk said that his store received less PS4 units than Xbox Ones.

Tweak Atlus' nose for bad grammar, then use less instead of fewer a story later. Oh irony!

That's a prescriptive rule that no longer describes US English. Speakers of US English no longer use the word fewer in that context, in fact they very rarely use it at all.
Neither in my experience as a student nor in my experience as a journalist or as a teacher of English is "fewer" rarely used. Keep in mind that journalists should write one level above the English level of their target audience as well.

I know someone who knows someone who works at microsoft (so this is secondhand information mind you) but I heard that microsoft made it a priority to ship more Xbones than they thought they would sell so that people would be able to buy them. Which makes sense. Every day sony doesn't have PS4s on shelves they're potentially losing sales.

PS4s could have outsold them regardless of whether that's true or not but that's just what I've heard.
