Chris couldn't have been killed, as he is in the next film Afterlife.
And that's terrible.

Looks like he's Aleskeria's new love interest, then.

I love the little statement about how they're going to take the story back to it's roots as a simple tale of a bunch of highly trained spec ops fighting a rogue supercomputer.

That's like saying you're going to take Batman back to his roots by making him a crippled Sushi chef who fights crime with his army of giant ants.

As a filmmaker and a gamer, I would probably reboot the movie franchise by basing it on the games for starters...
Seriously. I mean the material for the games thus far seriously outweigh the content that they've come up with. The first movie was essentially the only thing that came remotely close to the games, and it was the best one to date.

They need to go back to the very beginning as if they never made the other movies if you ask me.

I liked the first one well enough. It didn't bore me to tears, (Metaphorically anyway) like the games and it wasn't choking on its own sci-fi like the games.

I'd probably just do a Dallas and have Alice wake up after the first one and the rest was a crazy dream. And that Matt guys name would be changed to Chris Redfield and not be turning into a monster. After the obligatory 'It was all a dream' I'd show the destruction of Raccoon City. Or something. As long as there are zombies and no Tyrants or Nemesis's I would watch it.

And I would jettison Mila for a new actress and just have fans accept it. Or not, they'd watch it no matter what I did if the third one is any indication.
