Resident Evil: Revelations Grows Up, Heads to Consoles, PC

Capcom ports its most well-received Resident Evil title of 2012 to consoles.

Resident Evil 6 was met with mixed reviews upon its debut late last year, but most critics agreed that Capcom's 3DS survival horror romp, Resident Evil: Revelations, was of much higher quality. So with that in mind, the company has decided to bring the portable title to the big screen. Resident Evil: Revelations is now headed to the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii U. The game will release on May 21 in the U.S., and May 24 in Europe.

The re-release will be offered as a physical disc (with a downloadable option launching same-day for PC and PS3, and arriving later for the other platforms) and as such it will carry a price of $49.99. For that fee you'll get the full Revelations experience, complete with updated graphics and lighting, a new playable character - the beloved Hunk - for the game's Raid Mode, and an additional difficulty option.

From the screenshots Capcom has released of the updated title, Revelations certainly looks the part of a full console release. Of course, screenshots can be deceiving, so we'll have to wait until we get our hands on it before officially jumping for joy.

If you're a Resident Evil fan who doesn't own a 3DS - or simply haven't gotten around to playing the pint-sized iteration of Revelations - a console version should be good news. However, those who have already played through the title once before might be a bit put off by the arguably steep cost of reentry.

I am one of these people. This news pleases me greatly.

I heard great things about this one, so I'm looking forward to getting it once it comes out.

This is a small andp ersonal complaint I had with the 3Ds is that the screen was a little small for my eyes to really adjust to the gameplay. So hearing it come to the other consoles makes me very happy.

This is a good idea. Beefing up handheld titles to be ported to consoles and PCs. Much better than trying to cut down console games for handhelds most of the time. Looking at you Blazblue.

Well hopefully they'll manage to get it spelt right for everyone this time.

Might consider getting this if it comes down in price, but right now I'm not willing to pay £30 for a port of a handheld game when last year I got 2 HD'd PS2 games and an HD'd handheld game for the same price in the form of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.

nope, read again.

Actually he's correct, it's also headed to PC. My mistake, I've corrected the article to reflect this.

I loved this game! This is great news, might get the Wii U edition. I'll miss the amazing 3D effect this game had but the quality is outstanding. Best Resident Evil game since 2!

Finally, a proper Resident Evil game since 2005, but I guess that it might be a little too late for some people.

Likewise.

Ive always wanted to try this, but I didnt care for the 3DS. Now I can finally see if the fusion of modern gameplay and old school design is truely as great as it sounds.

Okay, that is actually surprising. Not quite happy with the 50$-pricetag (unless that is the price for the CONSOLE version and PC still get the usual 10$-price-cut on that), but considering the changes, they obviously had to charge more than 20 bucks for it.

Color me interested.

I was wondering if this would ever happen yesterday, actually. I've always wanted to try this, but don't have a 3DS. Can't say I'm not interested.

I really enjoyed it on 3DS. I might pick this version up when it's a tad cheaper, but the thought of having on my PC, all shiny like, is a tantalizing one.

I loved that game. It was hands down the best RE title last year and also arguably the only good one, and it was good. I will buy it again to play it on my PC with updated graphics and a new character. Good on them. First good decision Capcom made in regards to a 2012 RE title. Now they need to give me some Dragon's Dogma love. That too was a great game that I would much rather play on my PC.

HUNK is a playable character?
Why won't this screen take my money!?

This is pretty cool but the pricetag is a bit high for a 3DS port, even if HUNK makes a return.

Happy its going to be shiny and whatnot. To be REALLY honest, im REALLY surprised the PSVita wasn't included. I know some people can crack jokes, but if this came to literally even the Wii U, im really surprised vita got missed.

Finding it hard to have a problem.

I guess this is what they call a "good thing".

Lord knows we need more of those in this community.

Awesome, it looks like I know when I'm getting my next zombie-murder game on the Wii U! I already own a copy of Revelations on the 3DSs but sadly, it's been in the shrink-wrap since day one because of the misprint. I'm really looking forward to playing as Hunk again and I'm a bit perplexed about why Hunk doesn't have his own game...unless...was he the star of Operation Raccoon City or whatever the squad shooter from a year ago was?

Man, kind of torn since I already own it, but the additional difficulty level plus being able to aim with a mouse is tempting...plus I've been wondering what the game would be like with voice chat, which I expect will involve lots of swearing when the speed class mobs show up.

I hope they added more weapons, more gear mods (that are actually useful), and some more stages though, using all of the story stage areas sort of limited the field of engagement.
