Looks like shit.

I don't enjoy saing this, but it does.

And that the trailer is releasing only a month before the film's release, indicates to me that Sony has little faith in it.

It looks like a big budget fan film that was meant for the web, then go straight to DVD, only to be pushed out in theaters for some dumb reason. This is reminding me of those two low, low, budget live-action Dead Rising movies. That is a horrible sign. Looks like Dog Soldiers is still the best RE movie of all time.

Weird I was going to say the opposite, I think it looks pretty great in so much as it looks pretty faithful to the first two games.

Im not gonna hold my breath as the guy who wrote and directed it only has real stinkers to his name other than "47 meters down" which has a bit of a cult following.

It looks fun and pandering to actual RE fans rather than the in name only previous ones. I'll probably see it just for that zombie hallway scene. That seriously gave me the creeps as a kid.

While more faithful looking, almost none of the characters resemble or only barely resemble their game counterparts. The film idea looks someone's fan fiction from the late 90s/early 2000s where they would just copy and paste RE2/RE3, but have X character tag along or replace another character instead. And if you're gonna combine the two, at least get that right. Chris was never in Raccoon City and left. That was the entire point. Leon is supposed to be different from Chris. The dude went through several redesigns because the first draft looked too much like Chris. If anything, it should be Leon, Claire, and Jill. Yes, I know RE: Apocalypse happened, but we don't discuss that, even though it has the perfect live-action version of Jill.

The CGI looks like shit on most of the monsters. They look like CG from 2008 and 2009. And insulting to cg from that era, cuz most of them looked better than what we got right here.

Why do they do this every fucking time? WHY?

Why do they feel like they need to "add" plot to video game films? The Game already has plot you don't need to add your shitty rejected film plot into another movie just because you think you have good ideas!!!

You know what it is. It's a failed script writer who couldn't get their Original Script approved, but was able to pick up a job writing a video game movie script. So just because they think their garbage is sooooo great, they force their original idea into a script that already has a set up plot because they think they know better.

Why the fuck is Claire an investigator of some kind? Why are Umbrella insiders send out random fucking video tapes? FUCK YOU AND YOUR FANDOM!! That's why!

Part of what made the horror in the first two RE games so great is that Chris, Jill, Barry, Leon, and Claire all stumble into a situation that they have absolutely NO clue about. Go to your first day of work, suddenly zombies! Going to visit your brother, ZOMBIES! Investigating missing team members, BOOM ZOMBIES!

The resident Evil games don't need extra bullshit movie plot, they already ARE bullshit movie plot.

Not saying it looks good, but it's better than the other trailer.

Also, I'm guessing that rather than the film being RE2 with RE1 flashbacks, it's combining the two to occurring at the same time. Like, I dunno, the outbreak starts, and STARS is sent to find its source or something.

Remember this Stuff from the Recent Games - The Movie

The go-to for videogame movie adaptations.

Also, they somehow managed to make Chris an even more painfully boring character by casting that guy to play him.

I mean, it doesn't look as flat and joyless as Degeneration did, though that's not the highest bar to clear. And at least it isn't a vehicle for the director to show off his hot wife to a bunch of gaming nerds.

But yeah, no chance would I go brave a theater to see this.

Why do they keep making movies out of this series, seriously? Between the live action and animated ones, there seems to be about a billion of them. With Silent Hill, at least they gave up after the second one.

It's funny, this whole trailer I was just going "Oh hey, its that guy from that TV show!". I'm not saying any of them are bad actors or anything, but I'm pretty sure TV actors are much cheaper than Hollywood ones. "Cheap" is what I would describe this movie as. Those zombies look genuinely comical, I laughed when one of them was pinning Claire to the floor.

Oh one hand I'm happy to see Kaya Scodelario (Effy from Skins UK) getting a starring role in a film and finally sort of breaking into movies more considering her last lot of main roles was Teresa in the Maze Runner films.

On the other hand I feel really sad for Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost from Antman and the Wasp) for whom this really does seem like a career backslide as she's more of a side character as she's playing Jill and they're seemingly going to have Jill with the full Stars team and have the mansion as a B plot. Like She's better than this, she's better than having to have the name of an existing character slapped on and I know there's a push to also incorporate the games but she's good enough that they could have just gone "This is Helena our special forces ordinance specialist" and I'd have gone "Cool now I kind of want that character to become part of Resident Evil's game series" because Hannah John-Kamen is that good in my view that they should have been more willing to take risk because she's far better than a side part in what looks to be a cheesy movie with a character name from the franchise slapped on her just to apply the name to some-one in the cast.

Overall it looks I dunno passable as a film. I think the CGI might age fairly badly and it's a shame they didn't try for more practical effects stuff but hey gotta justify buying those massive render farms is how big studios now operate rather than utilising creature workshops and stuff.

I get what you mean, but, well, what exactly do we lose by having HJK in the role? I mean, maybe SHE stands to lose something if the movie bombs, but she's a solid actress, and even when in a supporting role, does a good job.

Also, are you surprised? Claire's always got top billing over Jill. :(

More lose the chance for her to play a new character and establish them. It feels like a waste to put her in as an already established well liked character when she could be more than that she has the experience and talent to build something for the franchise as such.
