Reverse sexism?

So a few kids at my school were talking and I couldn't help but overhear one of them describing a teacher as "Reverse sexist... you know, like sexist but towards guys."

Oh, the lovely hypocrisy. It's just like the statement "I'm not racist; I'm black!", or the idea that rape can only be done by guys, towards girls.

Why is it that so many people can't seem to understand such a concept that sexism can be towards guys too, or that racism can actually be directed towards white people? Also, what does the mentality that describes something as "Reverse sexism" say about that person?

I'm sorry you are just finding this out.. But people are ignorant and don't understand things. Yes sexism, racism, and even rape can happen to anyone, but because it happens to a certain type of person people start to think that it ONLY happens to them. This is how sterotypes are born as well.

I've also heard about "reverse racism" when someone is racist towards caucasian people. Ugh.

Because "common knowledge" is anecdotal. Only women complain about sexism, therefor sexism only applies towards women. Only black people complain about racism, therefor racism is only towards black people.

Sexism and racism are explained to children in child-like terms in hopes of inoculating children against racist influences. But it just leaves them confused.
Essentially, this.
It's ignorance, nothing more.

All of these prejudices can be done by anyone, to anyone (within reason obviously). White Christian people can be discriminated against, just as Chinese, Indian, Pakistani, Arab, Muslim, black or whatever kind of people can also be discriminated against. Women can be sexist against men (in fact, Feminazis are usually sexist against men and claim that they are fighting against sexism towards women - I refer only to Feminazis here, feminism in general is perfectly fine). And the big one, rape.

Rape can be done by women against men. In law (in the UK at least) it appears that women cannot be prosecuted for rape, because apparently women cannot rape men. The reasoning is that a man has to be sexually stimulated to have sex, so any woman having sex with a guy would only be able to do so if the guy wanted to. Which is silly. Anyone in the legal profession ever heard of Viagra? It's easy to drug a guy with Viagra, so he's aroused unwillingly, then rape him like that. Obviously girls can rape girls and guys can rape guys, but girls can't rape guys according to UK law.

Just a little off-topic there, but it's something that has always really got on my nerves.

People just don't grasp the concept of the isms. Most people think that only the majority can be whatever-ist towards minorities, like only whites can be racist, only men can be sexist, only the young can be ageist, etc. I don't get it.

Side question: what's the -ist term for hating on someone of a different sexual orientation?

Well, I agree with until you said rape can be forced upon by a girl, look, I don't want to have sex ed with you, but a girl would really have plan a lot of stuff out, or just not enjoy it, for her to be able to do so without you enjoying it, and if you enjoyed it, well I really can't see it as rape, sorry.

As for the rest, yes, black people can be racist, and women can be sexist.

Edit: well, I just lost an argument on this issue, so I don't know, I still feel as a woman cannot rape a man without a strap-on. Also, to the guy talking about Viagra, I believe you need to be stimulated a little for it to work in the manner you describe.

Funny, a thought just sprung into my head. Think about TV shows. If the humour involved is poking fun at the female gender there would be cries of outrage and 'MYSOGONIST!' thrown at it. Yet there are so many comedies that attack the stereotypical male and basically anything to do with belonging to this gender and no one bats an eyelid. I guess it's part of the curse of society, like how a guy can sleep around and he gets praised yet if a woman does it she's a whore. Who made up these rules?

Agreed, but one thing is, how many men will be honest about being raped? Even if they're forced against their will, most men won't admit it, because it's so damning to their pride.

Welcome to earth! You must be new here. There are some things you should know before you venture out too far.

1. People are idiots in general. Try to use smaller words as to not strain their brains too much.

2. Do not use internet and gaming logic in conversations... I'm speaking from experience here.

3. Don't drink the water. They put something in it to make you remember...

Just follow these three easy steps and you should be fine!

Seriously though. That's really stupid of them.
What a day and age we live in.

Time to break out the law knowledge, I knew that university training would pay off. In the UK rape can only be committed by men, and it must be with the penis and there must be penetration, whether it be anal, vaginal or oral. Both genders can be the victim. And yes, I agree that the law is rediculous when it comes to female rape, if you tie a man to a bed and force him to consume soporific drugs, e.g. viagra, the she is fully capable of committing rape.

Nope. Rape is simply sex without consent. Whether the people involved enjoyed it or not is not an issue. If a man did not give consent, it's rape regardless of how awesome/horrible it was.

Though I lean more towards having it so that the person has to actually express their disinterest before it can be called rape. This is because some people are claiming that being hammered constitutes as not giving consent, effectively rendering sleeping with a drunk person rape.

But yeah, reverse prejudice (which is kind of a wrong phrase, since it's the same thing as prejudice) can be rampant when the people involved are either uneducated or just plain stupid. Can't really change that.

It dose bring up a strange thought. What would "reverse sexism" be? Like being to even handed between men and women?

Oh well, I guess so, like I said in the edit, I lost an argument to this exact thing just moments after posting. I still feel if you enjoyed it, theres really no reason to bring it to the court.

There's nothing reverse about it. Sexism is sexism, directed at men, women or hermaphrodites. Racism is racism whether its directed at blacks, asians, whites or any other race.
