We dive into what would be the new album of MSI (Mindless Self Indulgence). The album titled "If." The only reason why I was drawn to this album is because the Producer, Rhys Fulber worked largely on the album... He's also noted for his work in Conjure One (Solo Work), Front Line Assembly, Delerium, and Fear Factory.

Think of Front Line Assembly meeting the new wave of Industrial music. (Kinda like on their Artificial Soldier album.) I'll give you this, every song is in your face Drums, Bass, Effected Guitars and next lyrics which will blow your mind away! Though people who are not informed of MSI's lyrics... YES, he is using real words. Because sometimes they run together and it gets hard to understand what he's saying. i.e. "Stupid M.F." All the typical MSI underground rock is in this album. However, the "PROCESSED" production steps into the first song... Stays for the whole album and never gives a little room to breath any REAL music.
OH! One highlight in this album. IT TAKES A WHILE FOR THE SONGS TO GET INTO. Well, not for the first song. It's an immediate Slap in the face. However, Deja vu hits when songs like "Mastermind" has a cool intro and then an out of nowhere Lincoln Park style (SHOCK AND AMAZED.) It's acceptable. I dig it... I totally understand what they were pulling off. And I liked it.
If you want an album with a story. MSI is not your cup of tea. If you want an album to just blast and bang your head to... This would be it.

TIME TO HACK THE ALBUM TO PIECES!!!
"Never Wanted to Dance" is the first song... Which is one of my sister's 'Stupid Songs'-song... A quick intro, chorus, verse, chorus - end.... And no, it's not a dance number. It's the opposite of a dance song. Though I do see a DJ jacking up the song to something more than what it is... Kinda like the "Straight to Video."

"Issues" is an album highlight because it's typical MSI having fun with what they do... Much like the 'You'll Rebel to Anything' album. It's catchy. Takes a while to get into the song because of the production! (THANK YOU RHYS). Only a few real ISSUES... typical issues... But whatever, they are not petty either...
This album, as well produced as it is, Rhys does a wonderful job at his craft. However, the album is almost making itself a joke. Under all the typical in studio processing... MSI is just playing the songs they like. And to some extent... It's just a huge joke to try and Produce an MSI album.

When I think of MSI live; I hope to hear the same thing from the CD! Kinda like listening to Sarah McLachlan... When I hear her music, she sounds either better or the same Live. MSI is like Audrey Hepburn in "My Fair Lady." Finding out she was dubbed the whole time. MSI's album is an amazing craft. But when they we're live during the following tour. I wasn't really impressed. It didn't seem like they put effort into the tour as much as the studio album makes it up to be.
See here's my problem. And I'll call it out... If you're going to sell music as a product to your fans and public. You have a standard to keep. Either stick to what you can do and don't sell yourself out. Or end up like Milli Vanilli... Dancing off stage because the music is skipping.

In a nut shell, they should keep doing what they are doing. But keep the music Raw. Which is a lot to ask for from any band or music act now a days.
