Rock Band PSP Coming In June

Rock Band gets Unplugged on the PSP this summer with some exclusive tunes, an in-game store for downloadable songs, and button-based gameplay that Harmonix says turns your hands into peripherals. That sounds a tad surreal.

Due for release on June 9, Rock Band Unplugged will be a PSP-exclusive developed by Harmonix in partnership with Backbone Entertainment. Gameplay will follow the Rock Band mold with guitars, drums and vocals, but translates it to "traditional beat match gameplay" complimented by Rock Band mechanics like overdrive/star power and chords. "Your hands are the 'peripherals' in Rock Band Unplugged," Harmonix said.

The game will include most of the modes you've come to know and love from the Rock Band games, including World Tour, Band Survival, Warm Up and a "robust character creator" as well.

In terms of the playlist, the game will sport 40 master recordings including nine tracks making their exclusive debut in Unplugged before moving on to other systems. The nine tracks are as follows:

3 Doors Down - "Kryptonite"
AFI - "Miss Murder"
Alice in Chains - "Would?"
Audioslave - "Gasoline"
Black Tide - "Show Me the Way"
Blink 182 - "What's My Age Again"
Freezepop - "Less Talk More Rokk"
Jackson 5 - "ABC"
Tenacious D - "Rock Your Socks"

These songs and others will be available through Unplugged's in-game store for downloadable songs, which Harmonix is calling the "first fully-featured in-game store" on the PSP. The store will make use of your PlayStation Network ID, and you can also buy songs from your PC as well.

I see this turning into a disaster really. It's just going to comprise of rapping on the face buttons in the correct order, so really...it's patapon without the fun visuals, and less catchy lol. I am most concerned about the singing...I mean on the 3000 you got the built in mic, but I cant imagine playing this on the bus or in a cafeteria and singing into my PSP. Oh well only time will tell if this turns out well or not, but fuck it!! give me news on Dissidia, Assassins Creed, DMC, Siltent Hill, or hell even LBP!!

It will be Guitar Star (a port of frets on fire to the PSP) with a lot more polish. Glad to see it won't be long until its out, hopefully the DLC will keep it fresh and ease the wait for LBPSP.

Look up Beatmania or DJ Max Portable on youtube. Rock Band looks like a westernized version of the Asian DJ Max Portable, which is a very well executed Beatmania clone. I for one look forward to this, since it's not J-pop this time around

Odd that they chose Gasoline from Audioslave... its a good song but I wouldn't say its Audioslaves finest achievement.

I say this won't work. Guitar Hero DS worked by having something that at least represented a guitar, the PSP as I am aware, is just using standard buttons.

Nice to see some Black Tide & Alice in Chains in there. I think that partiucular Blink song to be overplayed and overused in general.

Also, Miss Murder was in GH3 iirc.

It actually seems like it plays much closer to Frequency or Amplitude (though not using techno). Since both of those games were good, it's quite possible that this one will be too. I'm guessing that making it a Rock Band game allows them to keep using the same music library.

The gameplay on the different types of instruments isn't likely to be much different from each other, except that it will help mix up the patterns you're playing and probably allow them to make even the less interesting songs more fun to play. They showed it off a bit in their first trailer.

"[...]button-based gameplay that Harmonix says turns your hands into peripherals."

What next, graphics that will turn my eyes into cameras? Sound that will turn my ears into microphones?

(sorry, couldn't resist!)

That's actually much better than I thought it would be, kudos for Harmonix for not trying to cram a huge ass peripheral on the PSP. We'll just have to wait and see though.

I get the feeling this is going to bomb spectacularly and be the cause of thousands of people going to hospital for repetitive strain injury.

Say, you didn't use to be active on the official WoW forums, did you? Apologies if that came out as strange, but I could swear I have read your name somewhere else.

On topic; I can alredy see the kids on the bus rocking out. It will be awesome.

I can't think of a title I am less interested in. Incredibly repetetive button mashing? I think that one has been done before.

It's literally Frequency/Amplitude , not some FoF port, OR GH On Tour
