Rock Band Studio Harmonix Lays Off Staff

Rock Band and Dance Central developer Harmonix has laid off "a small number" of employees today.

Job losses are sad news at any time of the year, but layoffs close to the holidays hit just a little bit harder. Rock Band developer Harmonix has laid off some employees today. A spokesperson for the developer told Dan Crislip [http://www.joystiq.com/2013/12/09/harmonix-lets-go-a-small-number-of-employees/] was among those laid off today.

Harmonix announced that ten employees had been Fantasia: Music Evolved [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/123483-Harmonix-Cuts-a-Small-Number-of-Staff] with publisher Disney Interactive Studios. Fantasia: Music Evolved will be released for Xbox One and Xbox 360 in 2014.

We here at The Escapist hope all those affected by the cuts land on their feet again soon.

Well that completely sucks. I'm a big fan of the Rock Band and early Guitar Hero games. It's a shame to see a company that gives so much to its fans be in such trouble.

I hope the best for those affected.

A shame, but not a surprise. Their games have typically been rather niche, with the exception of a couple of years where Guitar Hero and Rock Band saturated the mainstream.

I thought Harmonix only fired anybody right after shipping a game, at which point they fire most everybody.

Thanks again, Activision for single-handedly destroying an entire genre of games.

We really appreciate that.

Source? I don't recall anything remotely like that ever happening and I've been a pretty close follower of Harmonix since Rock Band
