Rumor: Battle: Los Angeles Storming Game Stores

If rumors are to be believed, gamers will get to help Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez save Los Angeles from hostile alien forces.

There's been a lot of buzz about Battle: Los Angeles ever since it was <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/105278-Battle-Los-Angeles-Trailer-is-Out-of-This-World>announced last year for two big reasons: it's an alien invasion movie with some pretty big talent involved and it looks like it'll be so much better than the cinematic trash heap that was <a href=http://www.metacritic.com/movie/skyline>Skyline. It turns out that the movie is now going (probably) be made into a videogame.

According to the <a href=http://classification.gov.au/www/cob/find.nsf/5b6ebdff7f5b9a24ca2575ca00062226/90abcf6ace35e59aca25783b00580bca?OpenDocument>Australian Classification Board, the game is is going to be published by Konami and will be developed by Saber Interactive (the development studio behind Namco's upcoming shooter <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107568-Inversion-Delayed-By-Over-a-Year>Inversion). The game's been rated MA 15+ for strong violence, though it's not clear what type of game it will be (presumably an action shooter or a FPS).

According to Eurogamer, the game is due to come out in March, right around the time the movie does. Hopefully Saber and Konami deliver a quality title, but since this is a movie tie-in, the odds of that actually happening are a bit on the slim side. At the moment, Konami has yet to confirm the game's existence, and it doesn't show up on the ESRB website, so this is still firmly in rumor territory.

Another movie game, I wonder how much money studios lose on these things sometimes. Not nearly enough to warrant them to stop producing them. Here's my thoughts on this part of the industry, especially in this case where it's probably going to be a standard issue FPS. Don't release a whole game based on it, make it DLC for one of the big games already out there. Add some weapons, some bad guys, perhaps reskin some of the army dudes, record some dialog. It's gotta be cheaper and quicker than trying to build a whole game from the ground up, though I am not a game developer so I could be wrong.

Not sure how the movie will be. Looks ok to be honest. But I have to say, I love the music at the end. Always makes my hair stand up.

I really don't have any expectations for this game. It will just be another below average FPS that looks like shit and plays like shit.

Well the movie is definatly for you, if you love action flicks with very little plot and actors you can have masturbation fantasies over, the video game will probably be just like the AVP game, only worse. I admit, as a mindless FPS you'll can kill time with it, but what would be the point? To save a shithole town from aliens weeeeeeee. Furthermore, aliens invading Earth, this story is missing Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum.

Truth be told I may go see the movie just to rip at the lack of accuracy of the military, and because as posting here suggests: I have no life.

Truely some awesome music in all the trailers since march.
As for the game, well it seems wierd to only announce it now when there are just a few months left.

Kinda saw this coming. It seems as if the movie is made for games. I actually thought it was a movie based off of a game when I had first heard of it, but the I realized that no matter how desperate Hollywood gets, they will never touch the Golden Turd that is Earth Defense Force 2017.
