Won't Happen.
The state of current PC gaming is this: Out with the hard copies, in with the Downloading. Hard copies will be a console-only deal, it's already begun. Go to your local GameStop or EB Games and compare the whole wall covered in console games vs the tiny rack of PC titles. This means that the Steam console is the future of PC gaming, which means that VALVE is the future of PC gaming. VALVE has nothing to worry about apart from what to spend their enormous amounts of money on.

ZeniMax is so hands-off that I don't think this will be a big game changer for us. It could lead to more funds for valve, and that's always good. So why not?
That's what I was thinking.
The biggest change would probably be that they make valve port things over to the ps3. That's probably what's got all the fanboy's sacks all tied in a knot. I'm tired of hearing Newman complain about it being too hard anyway.

I'm not even certain that would happen. I mean, awesome if it does, but I don't see it. ZeniMax has a track record of not giving a shit what the company does so long as it is profitable and keeps the companies image strong. If Gabe is pretentious enough to think his image hinges on not programming on the PS3, then it wont happen.

Is this another "Microsoft wants to buy Yahoo"(even though Y's not selling) scenario? Methinks so.

I hope that, if Bethesda and Valve decide to develop games together, they will get it right.

That is, Bethesda can design the character models, and Valve can do everything else. Then you get the best of both worlds. Let Bethesda do anything else, and it WILL be stupidly glitchy, freeze every ten minutes, and the dialogue will be terrible.

The one thing Valve does completely wrong is Steam. If all Bethesda games will be requiring Steam logon to play, then both companies can go design cupboards and chairs instead of games. Maybe I don't want to use up my download limit playing single player games, seriously. I'll put my money where it's deserved, and I suggest others do the same.

I figured the only thing wrong with fallout was the combat but get an engine with ok combat and you got urself a good deal right there.

Holy buckets filled with VATS. I wonder what Valve will say about this. Seeing that they are launching the new L4D, I doubt they will be easy to buy. Another EA buys Rockstar scenario.
agreed, it cant happen. only Activition and NCsoft can actually write a check large enough to make valve happy. and NCsoft (they make as much money as activition does a year, and spend next to nothing, at least blizzard understands it needs to shovel money into other people's pockets), if its PR department is anything to show for, makes EA look generous.

GAWD NOOOOOOO
I'm sorry, but I see no good coming out of this. I think part of the reason Valve has never made a game with any significant flaws (think about it--Valve has never made a game more than 3% of gamers thought was bad) is that they're able to work at their own pace and entirely under the helpful direction of High Lord Newell. I'm dreadfully afraid that if they're bought out by Zenimax, deadlines will be enforced, cuts will be made, and Valve games will lose their near-perfection.
