On Valve's part, the move might be a smart one, giving it access to funds and a relatively hands-off publisher, which is something that it seems to like. We've contacted both Valve and Zenimax for comment and will keep you updated.
so.......uhhhhhhhhh, how is this any different from what valve has now? the ONLY thing valve uses ea for is to distribute the retail discs of their games, but valve SELF-PUBLISHES their games themselves. as for funds, with the ungodly amount of money valve made on left 4 dead, will be making on l4d2, and from all the stuff they make from steam they probably have more than enough money on hand than they would need from zenimax acquiring them.

while zenimax may have its eye on valve i highly doubt valve would take any offer they throw down.

Not want. Valve should stay independent. Valve should also start working on episode 3! I know Left 4 Dead 2 is very good etc but I want my Half Life dammit!

Oh god please no, please no!
Valve make hihgly polished single palyer experiances but take their dam time. They have an excellent reputation for support and interaction.
Bethseda make buggy games that are half done and refuse to patch properly, giving the fans the tools to finish the game for them. Their games have all the immersion and depth of a spoon in an empty bowl of ceral.

Keep them seprate please

To be be honost I hate rumors like when valve was going to be bought out by ea or ea being bought by microsoft, and when rumor was spread ea stock went up 5 percent. The only time people merge compainies is commenly due to financial problems, financial problems that valve does not have.
Activision-Blizzard.

That picture is so funny! Yes, you have a good point indeed.

I don't know how this would affect a company like Valve who have a tendency to delay games till the apocalypse in order to polish them to death. And I don't think they are in need of money especially when you consider the highly successful Steam service. Then again, as Amnestic said above, despite the millions that Blizzard was earning though World of Warcraft, they did merge with Activision. And even id software which was a successful company was eventually bought by Zenimax. So, never say no to the possibility.

But if we believe what TheDude7053 says, then it's nothing other than a stupid rumour. You know, like the one that said "Microsft is gonna buy EA or sth".

I thought Valve had enough money to buy a small Space Shuttle. Valve are probably worth more than ZeniMax.
Really? They are on the verge of (if they haven't already) buying Id Software and they created some of the most known and the most famous shooters in history (Doom, Quake, Wolfenstein).
True, but I was meaning to say that Valve are more liked by the community. They are more valued by their fans.

I probably should have made that clearer in my original post! =-)

What I love about Zenimax is that they don't mess with their developers like at all...And with two awesome game development firms under the same room, that's just epic.

This is actually quite an interesting rumour, which has benefits on both ends, and i presume i know what Zenimax is after, which makes this all the interesting to keep tabs on.

Even if this should occur i hope Valve's things/games/service or whatever don't get influenced by this. But hey we don't even know if this is real yet, so only time will tell.

I'm shaky on this.

Betheseda and Valve together is gonna go one of either two ways. One, they'll soar to new heights creating one of the best games in history or two, they completely fuck up each other's reputation for good games.

Of course maybe Valve won't be bought by Bethesda and all will remain the same.

Not going to happen, Valve is privately held.

However when I first look at "Bethesda to buy Valve, I WAS LIKE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Vader style.

Oh and all they want is steam since it craps money.

To all the people saying that Valve has money i have to reply: Are you srsly comparing a business with a game studio in terms of capital? Naive to say the least. I hope Valve gets bought, maybe that way they'll have to stick to deadlines and not dick around for year round a game and say they are "polishing" it.
Well than Bethesda would be the wrong company to buy it if you wanted them to make there deadlines, tard....

You think they are dicking around? Do us all a favor and never speak again.

while id has arguably done more for the fps genre and may be a more iconic developer than valve, the simple fact is that id has never really made as much money off of their games as valve has.

wolf 3d, and the early doom games didnt sell for $50 a pop like half life did, and its arguable as to how many copies id actually SOLD of those games. more recently however ids games havent been as successful as valves have, with direct comparisons being doom 3 and half life 2 (the former is estimated to have sold 3.5 million copies, the most successful game id has ever made, whereas hl2 has sold close to 10 million copies, which is actually LESS than the original half life sold). then we of course have to take steam into consideration, which is bringing massive amounts of money to valve, while id software lacks any kind of program like this. finally theres the fact that while both id's and valves recent engines have been completly overshadowed by unreal engine 3, the simple fact is that source has had many more third party licensees than id tech 4.

sorry, but the simple is that while id is a more iconic developer valve has made much more money ans is likely worth several times what zenimax paid for id. its really not a fair comparison in terms of the economic value of each company and the poster you quoted was right, financially valve IS worth more than id.

the only problem is this: despite the constant delays valve makes some of the best games ever made. half-life is awarded with the top spot on top 10 and 100 lists more than doom is, while games like half-life 2, tf2, portal and left 4 dead are all praised to high heaven (and rightfully so). the amount of care valve puts into their games ensures that they are the best games they can possibly be, something that a lot of other developers, bethesda included, should do.

As long as Zenimax do keep their hands off and don't screw with Valve's creative process then this should be a very good move for both companies.

For one it isn't Bethesda buying valve it's ZeniMax. Bethesda's parent company. Bethesda wouldn't really have anything to do with this.

And I really doubt this is true. Most rumors are bull.

Maybe Valve can teach Bethesda about realistic characters.
Like a scientist that can fight off hordes of special forces, alien creatures, invading alien soldiers and their war machines etc? With nothing but a fancy suit and a crowbar? Come on. As awesome as the games are they're not that realistic.
