Rumor: DriveClub Delayed to Spring 2014

DriveClub may be joining Watch Dogs in slipping from a launch title to a 2014 release.

It hasn't been a good week for the next-gen launch lineup. Following the news that Watch Dogs won't be arriving on launch day as planned [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/128707-Watch-Dogs-Delayed-to-2014], a rumor has been circulating that the release date of DriveClub has been pushed back, too. DriveClub is meant to be a launch title for the PlayStation 4, and if this rumor is true, the console's launch lineup will be two big-name entries shorter than expected.

A site called The Same Coin first reported the rumor after being informed by an anonymous source. It wasn't much of a substantial lead, but in the following hours multiple inside sources around the web chimed in to back up the rumor. A Sony representative only remarked that Sony doesn't comment on rumors and speculation. Meanwhile, DriveClub design director Paul Rustchynsky is only saying that he has nothing to add.

If the game does get pushed back to the spring of 2014, it doesn't bode well for developer Evolution Studios. After the Watch Dogs delay wrecked Ubisoft's share prices [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/128768-Ubisoft-Share-Price-Tanks-As-Bad-News-Abounds], there'd have to be a pretty darn good reason for anyone else to ditch a launch day release. Still, we're hearing the same thing from a lot of sources, so this delay could be happen. At this point let's just hope that none of the other next-gen launch titles decide to join the club.

If this is true it's going to be all kinds of trouble for Sony and Playstation Plus. They're bringing in changes to the PS3 PS+ a couple of weeks from now that mean we're getting less games each month (at least for PS+ EU) with the explanation being that plus will include PS4 games soon and that's got plus users riled up enough as it is. Maybe if Drive Club is delayed we'll get something even more exciting at launch for the PS4.

Anyone know any good launch titles for either the PS4 or the One?

Not being snarky; I just want to know if it's worth it to buy either system when they release or if I should wait until sometime next spring.

That is a point, although of course the PS+ version of DriveClub wasn't going to be the full game anyway.

Currently - not really in my opinion, certainly nothing worth buying a console you wouldn't buy anyway to play. I expect there will be better games out this time next year (not to mention a larger library to choose from for both consoles).

As I recall the plus version was basically the same but with a few cars taken out? Either way it was certainly the big draw of plus for the PS4 at launch.

Well full enough that they said you can get the plat trophy.

Honestly, I was only going to get Driveclub because it was free with PS+. If I really enjoyed it, and the upgrade price was as reasonable as they claimed, I would think about paying to get the addition content.

So, can't say I care if it is delayed. Hopefully it isn't. Still trying to decide what launch game I do want. The real games I want come out early 2014. And I half expect Knack will be a PS+ free game at some point.

The list of PS4 release titles:

Obviously Call of Duty, Battlefield etc are on all systems, but there are exclusives as you'd expect. Personally I'm looking forward to Killzone Shadowfall.

Yeah this sucks, as a connoisseur of well made car porn I am bitterly disappointed that this has been delayed instead of being available on PS+.

If this gets delayed too I will tip my desk over if I see that news report.

Until it's officially confirmed I don't believe it.

I was playing this at Eurogamer.
