Its kind of sad. Most MMO developers that have been working with subscriptions for a while are in talks of going free-to-play. D&D online, LOTR online, and Star Trek Online might do it. Even Blizzard said that at a future date, World of Warcraft might go free-to-play as well.

While that is happening, here we have the activision people saying "We're going to go from a free-to-play online game to a pay-to-play online game."

That seems completely backwards.

the problem is Bobby, FPS gamers dont like the idea of paying for something that USED to be free. your making a mistake, and I sincerly believe that this will end badly for you.
That doesn't matter to the executives, by their logic in 2-5 years new customers will never have heard of free services. Conditioning.

Probably fake but...I'm sorry to say this guys.
Kotick is going to get subscriptions. You only need to look at WoW to know that people will pay big money for a game they enjoy...

I'm afraid that the future is hurtling towards services where we have to pay to download the games, pay to play them, and pay for extra features. OnLive was the first.

I feel somewhat sorry for the MW2 fanboys out there, but I guess this just makes people hate even more Activision and Bobby Kotick.
I don't. Why? They asked for it, becoming fanboys for a franchise owned by a guy who must worship Hitler, Stalin, Bush and money. Halo: Reach, more fun and no subscription needed!
I hate double posting but Hitler, Bush and Stalin? Really? I mean really?

So for anyone that owns a 360, they will have to pay for their internet, their Live subscription AND to play this one game? Seems like subscription-based games are the future -.-

D&D online IS free, with the ability to spend money to unlock certain classes/races/items/whatever. Unless you mean they were planning on just going %100 completely free. If WoW went free, I think my buddy and I would be reliving the grand adventure of walking straight from Booty Bay to the Undercity at level 30 on a PVP server... Dear god that was fun.

Is it even legal to make me pay for something I already paid full price for at a store? And what about people with the collector's edition of the game? Do they have to give even more money to Activision? It's perfectly acceptable to make people pay a subscription for a new game based on that model, buy making people pay for somehing they already bought is not only a low blow for consumers, but will also eventually come around to bite Activision in the ass when people get tired of this.

I don't because eventually they will screw us all over. They will buy this. Other companies will see $$$$ and we are boned.
I don't, I think most companies will see the imminent death of the CoD franchise as an example of how not to treat your fans. There are _some_ games out there, that warrant subscriptions. Every FPS up to this date, however, do not.
I would like to believe that no one will buy it. Unfortunately Blizzard sold how many of those $25 mounts? So if people are willing to pay 25 bucks on top of the 15 they pay monthly for a piece of DLC why wouldn't they pay for a subscript fee for COD?

It's beyond me why they need a subscription fee in the first place, besides the obvious answer that they are greedy assholes. I'd say the sale of the game itself as well as all of the crappy map packs they release should cover any and all expenses they have. I love me some CoD from time to time, but not if I have to pay for it...twice.
