I feel somewhat sorry for the MW2 fanboys out there, but I guess this just makes people hate even more Activision and Bobby Kotick.
I don't because eventually they will screw us all over. They will buy this. Other companies will see $$$$ and we are boned.
I don't, I think most companies will see the imminent death of the CoD franchise as an example of how not to treat your fans. There are _some_ games out there, that warrant subscriptions. Every FPS up to this date, however, do not.
I would like to believe that no one will buy it. Unfortunately Blizzard sold how many of those $25 mounts? So if people are willing to pay 25 bucks on top of the 15 they pay monthly for a piece of DLC why wouldn't they pay for a subscript fee for COD?
That's WoW though, an entirely different beast than any FPS...it has more replay value in it, than any 10 FPS' combined. Easily. Not going to argue the merits of WoW here, it's crack, plain and simple lol. But, FPS'? Are they going to give mounts to people in FPS'? Specialized weapons you can buy? Doesn't that throw the whole skill system/ranking system out the window? That's the problem, I see, anyway. They created this model for FPS', where the weapons have to be fairly balanced. WoW...has no such restrictions. As for the mounts? That's easy. The amount of time it can take some to get an actual epic flyer in WoW is mind boggling (it's actually pretty easy, but people want immediate satisfaction), riding is better than walking, flying is better than riding (it can take 15-20 minutes to just 'fly' across a continent). The same just can't be said for FPS'.
You missed my point completely. It doesn't matter how useful the mount may be. The fact is they charged people 25 bucks on top of the 15 bucks a month for a piece of DLC. And people went apeshit because they love WOW. People also love COD (MW2 set new records for crying out loud) so to say that this will fail is optimistic at best. People aren't going to look at it and say well there isn't enough updating content to make it worth while. The only thing they are going to see is COD.
And lets not forget how Acti jacked the price on thier games by 10 bucks. That didn't hurt sales. Whine, *****, chew and complain all you like but at the end of the day most of those doing that will still pay. Our entertainment is more valuable than principles. We have proven time and time again that we talk big when we are behind a keyboard. When the game hits the shelf then the tune changes.
No, I followed your point, you just failed to understand that WoW is a different beast than CoD (typical). Things you can do in WoW, are not always things you can do in CoD. It's actually quite simple. Peoples love for CoD is obviously being challenged here, even in this forum. Take a gander at the general responses to this. Not exactly favorable, and no few amount of people saying they'd be done with the game, should it happen.
The real question is, what are you paying for NOW, that...wasn't there THEN. Lastly, if you want to start running your mouth about whining, take it elsewhere. I'm not complaining, I don't own MW1, or MW2, and I will certainly not be getting Black Ops. Has nothing to do with subscription fee's, and everything to do with CoD being a shit franchise since CoD2, having peaked at UO.
Beyond that, this is a problem for console gamers, not really PC gamers. There are vastly more options in the FPS department on PC, and they're simply much better to boot. They're not designed around a console with paltry amounts of RAM, or limited/no harddrive space to work with. IE Vast open enviroments, where NPC's actually interact with each other, while you're not present.
